BELGRADE, June 6 (AFP) - Five medical workers were killed in southern Kosovo when their car was hit by a mortar fired from Albania, the state news agency Tanjug reported Sunday.

The four men and a woman were killed Saturday afternoon near the southwestern village of Planeja, near the Albanian border, the agency said. It did not identify the victims.

The area along the border with Albania, on the side of the Pastrik mountain, has been the scene of fierce clashes between the Yugoslav army and ethnic Albanian rebels of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

The agency said NATO warplanes pounded southwestern Kosovo early Sunday, but gave no details about casualties or possible targets.
