Put Not Your Faith in Politicians
Most antiwar candidates have fallen by the wayside, one by one, and the likelihood is that, come November – with a little help from the Democratic "super-delegates" – we'll be faced with two candidates who support a continued US presence in Iraq. Whether it's bullying Iran, threatening Pakistan with invasion, or some fresh foreign "crisis" yet undreamed of, the "major" candidates can all be counted on to get with the program – the War Party's program. The lesson is clear: put not your faith in politicians. Even the decent ones can only take us so far. Now it's up to us. The antiwar movement must develop and maintain its own institutions. Since 1995, Antiwar.com has been campaigning for a foreign policy of peace and nonintervention. We opposed Clinton's "humanitarian" interventionism, just as we oppose the "pro-democracy" interventionism of the Bush administration today. Our coverage and commentary on foreign affairs is nonpartisan, ideologically diverse, and comprehensive. We're a resource for serious researchers as well as the antiwar movement. Antiwar.com is an institution worth keeping, and we depend entirely on the generosity of our readers and supporters, whose tax-deductible contributions make our work possible. We need your vote of confidence – contribute today. Sorry for
the interruption. |
