VOTE YES ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA
NOVEMBER 5, 1996

Californians will be able to vote in November to allow doctors to prescribe Marijuana for a variety of illnesses. More than 700,000 Californians signed petitions to put the Compassionate Use Initiative on the state-wide ballot.

Marijuana has proven to be of benefit in the treatment of glaucoma, anorexia, hypertension, arthritis, chronic pain, nausea and other ailments.

Marijuana as an anti-nausea medication is particularly important for people with cancer, whether undergoing radiation therapy or chemotherapy.

People with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome also suffer from nausea and other digestive problems which are treatable with marijuana. AIDS Wasting Syndrome is a common health problem associated with AIDS, and it has been successfully treated with the use of Marijuana.

The California Legislature has twice passed bills to allow doctors to prescribe Marijuana for medical purposes. Both times, Governor Wilson vetoed the Medical Marijuana laws. The Compassionate Use Initiative is almost identical to the bills passed twice by the California Legislature.

To enable California doctors to prescribe Marijuana for medical purposes, the Federal laws regulating Marijuana will also have to be changed. If elected, I will introduce a bill into Congress modeled on the Compassionate Use Initiative.
