NATIONAL ID CARD:
THE ATTACK ON PRIVACY

Many politicians are calling for a National ID Card to deal with the problem of illegal immigration. Governor Pete Wilson in 1994 noted that passage of Proposition 187 would require creation of a National ID Card. Senator Diane Feinstein has called for a National ID Card that would include digitized retina scan information to prevent counterfeiting.

Congressman Ken Calvert (Rep-Riverside) has sponsored a bill to create a National Computer Data Base that would list everyone who has a right to be in the United States. Employers would be required to call an 800 number to confirm that job applicants are listed as citizens or legal residents in the National Computer Data Base.

Proposals for a National ID Card or a National Computer Data Base are a direct attack on personal privacy.

In Red China and Cuba, Communist Party neighborhood committees maintain files on everyone living in those countries. The bipartisan politicians want to implement a high tech version of Communist control methods in America.

Libertarians oppose proposals for a National ID Card and we oppose the proposed National Computer Data Base of American Citizens. In fact, we want to abolish the National Computer Date Base operated by the Internal Revenue Service, to restore financial privacy to 100 million working Americans.
