As a Cuban-American,separation from my family by the "Bush doctrine" towards Cuba and my people on the island(family and other loved ones)has made me particularly bitter ....
Everything this administration has done is despicable.
The US and ISRAEL vote for the embargo yet ISRAEL exports citrus from Cuba and has built some office complexes and owns a hotel in the UNESCO world heritage district.
God damned two faced bastards !!!

Southern farmers are hurting and Cuba can pay in USD and yet the embargo is expected to topple this new revolutionary regime ? WIth Chinese giving us new buses,France new trains and lots of oil from Hugo. The Spaniards have the entire north coast built up with 4 and 5 star resorts.....and they are not leaving this time !!!!Nickel prices are on the rise and investors are slowly coming to this new Cuba, including Russia,China,Qatar and Dubai.

OH !!! AND WE HAVE OIL OFF OUR COASTS AS WELL !!!! WELCOME CHINA !!!

It just makes America look like a big loser, like the loser that it is,that it has become.I grew up happy in NYC.NYC is a nightmare, the infrastructure(subways) are a DISASTER,,,,the country looks like a lego sprawl. It is hideous !!.....With all our problems starting on 9/11,Iraq,AIPAC ,Afghanistan to the economic crisis, climate change and gas at 4 US pesos,at least give your own American farmers a chance to earn a living.

I can assure you,the Cuban government is as strong as ever.David has clearly triumphed over Goliath.Abu Ghraib will give Cuba MORAL authority and the US should leave Guantanamo Bay during the next administration.

Jose Marti,CUBA'S intellectual "idol" ( to make it more up to date with american "culchuh")wrote "Our wine is bitter but it is our wine" .A heavy price payed by the Cuban people and the feeling of deep loss in the diaspora.

Things are changing in Cuba,no doubt.....alot has to be done. AMERICA,stay out !!!! You are in no position to tell anyone how to run their country when you can't run your own !
SEE 9/11,KATRINA,IRAQ WAR,WAR WITHIN THE GOP....THE SS CRISIS.Will WE have money for our old or will they make us into soylent green ????

I wish things were better ,it will take time but Americans can't begin to imagine or understand what that island has been through in the last half century.....Total destruction:We need housing desperately, especially Havana, public transport, salaries approaching market economies .This will come in time.

You cannot stop the fow of tourists from Europe,Canada and Latin America....0ver 2.1 million in 2007 and new hotels under construction. But the Us is missing out !!! HAHAHA !!!

To suggest "democratic elections" in Cuba is anathema considering we were under a dictatorship for 50 years....Americans are out of touch with the rest of the planet....It is embarrassing !!!

If the United States traded with Cuba it would give them an opportunity to build up influence in the country. As it stands now Cuba has no incentive to listen to America, but if it stood to lose billions of dollars in trade that might be a strong reason to consider Washington's views. It would also help to improve the standard of living of the Cuban people.

We Canadians have been vacationing in Cuba for the past forty years & uniformly report that the Cuban people seem happy. Ditto from my son back-packing in Laos. U.S. destroys both peoples AND THEIR HAPPINESS under the most traitorous (see Michael Rupert: conspiracy 9/11), and criminal regime in U.S. history. Down with senile McSAME!

I’m no fan of John McCain’s, but from a technical standpoint that article in the ‘Rock Creek Free Press’ is a bunch of sensationalist hogwash fed more by rumor rather than facts. Lt Commanders don’t run a carrier, pilots don’t dictate what type of ordnance their aircraft will be loaded with, and ship’s captains and airwing commanders don’t dictate what ordnance will be carried by the ship when it goes to sea on combat cruises. Leftover WW II ordnance was used extensively in the early years of the Vietnam war by the Navy, Air Force, and Marines…and I doubt if its ‘cookoff’ time is any less than that of any modern MK-83 GP bomb without thermal shielding. Additionally, the A4 aircraft is designed to carry one 1000 pound bomb each on the parent centerline and inboard wing pylons. Whoever said that the aircraft is limited to carry only 500 pound bombs is full of beans. The aircraft would also not be illegally loaded…that is, there would not be a 1000 pounder on an outboard wing pylon…guaranteed. I’ll go out on a limb here and assume his aircraft was probably loaded with one MK-82 (500#) on each outboard wing station, a 300 gallon fuel tank on each inboard wing station, and a single 1000# bomb on the fuselage center station. This would comprise a typical maximum combat load for the A4 if 1000# bombs were being used. That said, I don’t consider John McCain a ‘hero.’ Any damn fool can get himself shot down and being a POW just means sitting out the combat phase of the war…not fun, but neither particularly ‘heroic,’ at least not in my book. But to blame him for the Forrestal fire is nothing but a phoney bullsh*t smear!

The American policy on Cuba is the dumbest, stupidest, most hypocritical, ridiculous policy ever conceived. Why does the U.S. single out Cuba? You do business like there's no tomorrow with China and American presidents can't throw themselves at the feet of the Saudis quick enough. You think Bush would ever have Castro at his ranch like he does the Saudi king? Isn't Saudi Arabia rated by Freedom House as one of the least free countries on earth? Americans are supposed to be a 'free' people, but apparently unlike other FREE people are not able to visit Cuba or enjoy a nice Havana Cigar. NUTS.
