Actually, "unconditional" US support for Israel only really started after the 1967 war. In the 1948 Israel's main ally was the Soviet Union, while in the '50s and '60s it was France (because Nasser - Israel's main enemy - also supported Algerian freedom fighters).

I guess it is true - we have not made any real significant progress with human space exploration since the conclusion of the Apollo Program, aside from learning how to put together a space station that will only serve as useful for 20 years at most - but we have made significant strides in non-manned excursions. We landed two rovers on Mars, we sent satellites past Jupiter, Saturn, the hundreds of moons thereof, and that is pretty impressive. The Soviets landed probes on Venus that were able to transmit for short periods of time before they were destroyed by the Venutian environment. Heck, Buzz Aldrin just complained about it on national television - that we weren't doing much with the shuttle program and that we should be getting to Mars as soon as possible. (And he was the second guy on the moon - and the guy who punched out Bart Sibrel, not the equal in accomplishment, but just as gratifying for a person to watch!)
Is NASA a justifiable expense? Well, in one sense absolutely. The fact of the matter is that the Earth's resources are going to be gobbled up - and eventually we'll see a time when money no longer matters, because food is going to be the first priority, anyone see Mad Max or read The Road by Cormac McCarthy? - and we will have to figure out how to get ourselves to another body in this solar system to survive. Mars is the prime candidate, and Europa (one of the moons of Jupiter) is supposed to be the next best alternative. (Venus won't work, the Moon even less so and Mercury is right out.) That is a more practical reality that we will have to face at one point - this planet's resources do not have an eternal supply, and therefore consumption must be reduced and another venue (one at least) must be found in order to sustain the human species. Obviously, it is nowhere near guaranteed or even probable that mankind will survive long enough to witness the expansion of the Sun that will eradicate this planet (and Venus, Mercury, and Mars) but if it does, we will obviously need to have moved onto other worlds by then.
To sum up, even though there are a myriad of complex and urgent problems that we as humans must solve (poverty, war, starvation, etc.) there is a further problem - the consumption of all of our planets' resources and therefore either moving to another planet or death will happen, and NASA is key as far as to how we are going to achieve it. Not to mention how to potentially stave off extinction by asteroid, comet, or other impact.

In general the USA enjoyed good relations with the Arab and muslim world until it began its unconditional support of Israel in 1948 (after its foreign policy was hijacked by the Israel lobby). The first country in the world to recognize American independence was Morrocco an Arabic and muslim country.

100 years ago, there was a caliphate, based in Istanbul. Somehow the sky didn't fall. The USA was actually on relatively good terms with the Ottoman Empire, particularly when Lew Wallace was ambassador to the Sublime Porte.

Our fearless leaders were killing killing killing then, too. !968 was deep into the Viet Nam Era. I remember mostly falling asleep watching the moon landing on TV, and I was a Science Fiction fan.

There are not enough war profiteers bleeding the US KH wants space profiteers to thrive and pillage like the pentagon.

The private sector profit machine is who will benefit from more NASA boondoggling, just like the privatized arsenal system makes long war profits.

The common thread with these gods they wish to chase is the poor taxpayer will give his excess SS taxes over to them. No sense making the income tax go up.

The waste does not make the country productive enough to pay SS in 2050.

So Charles Krauthammer--Israel-first, neocon, warmongering sonofabitch--thinks we need to keep the colossal boondoggle NASA going just to joyride around space.

Bullshit.

Of course, if Krauthammer agrees to cut off America's paychecks to Israel, end America's war(s) in the MIddle East, and divert THAT money to his boondoggle NASA, well. . . .

Rather taxes be used for the space program than what? He's complaining about the taxes, period, which raise costs for everything. Where does he say anything about spending money on another government program?

Oh, jeepers! It's about TAXES! Guess all those hostile references to "whitey" threw me off. And I'd rather taxes be used for the space program. Guess the revolution won't be aphorized.
