Gitmo 9/11 Suspects
Some thoughts on the Gitmo 9/11 suspects that are supposedly behind 9/11 and are due to come to New York for a civilian trial:
1. Why haven’t they been brought to trial years before now? We didn’t just discover that they were behind the attacks.
2. Why are we fighting in Iraq? If the ones behind 9/11 are in custody, why are we killing people in Iraq at the cost of more American lives than were killed on 9/11?
3. Why are we fighting in Afghanistan? If the ones behind 9/11 are in custody, why are we killing people in Iraq at the cost of more American lives than were killed on 9/11?
4. What about Osama bin Laden? I thought he was behind it all. Isn’t that why we went into Afghanistan?
5. Why are these men being tried and possibly facing the death penalty? The actual murderers perished in the planes they hijacked.
Am I excusing anything these men may have had to do with 9/11? Certainly not. But neither do I make excuses for the U.S. foreign policy that created terrorists.

The one good thing about this trial will be that we shall get to see just what kind of evidence the US government has. This may reveal many weaknesses. The defendants will be convicted in any case.

Evidence??? Why would we need them? wouldn't the confession be enough?

Well, perhaps the defense will say that they were tortured and so any confession is suspect.

This will be nothing but a Stalinist show trial. Both the verdicts (guilty on all counts) and the penalties (death by, one assumes, lethal injection) have already been decided for the defendants. The trial itself is nothing but a media event, a carefully choreographed circus carried out solely to 1) satisfy the criteria that meet the barest technical definition of a "trial by jury", and 2) to satisfy the blood lust of the benighted, jingoistic sheeple who want SOMEBODY to pay for the events of 9/11. As in all trials of this sort that have taken place over the last two decades, exculpatory evidence will be withheld or barred from presentation by the bought-and-paid-for presiding judge, witnesses for the defense will be mysteriously "disqualified" (probably for "national security" reasons) or, for whatever reason, will fail to appear, and the federal prosecutor(s) will be allow to tear judicial procedure, the Constitution, and BoR to shreds. And don't even get me started on what will happen during the voire-dire process for jury selection! In other words, look for a trial so blatantly rigged in favor of the United States government, one that will make so complete a mockery of the Constitution and BoR that what little residue of credibility American justice still has will be wiped away once and for all time.

He complained about torture, and also about the treatment of his children. “They arrested my kids intentionally,” he said. “They are kids. They been arrested for four months they had been abused.”
We don’t know exactly what Mohammed was told about his children’s treatment. According to journalist Ron Suskind, CIA interrogators warned Mohammed that they would harm his children if he didn’t cooperate.”

Two comments. I can answer your 5th comment- legally, conspiracy to commit murder can be treated as murder. (I think some gangsters were prosecuted for this.) Of course, the same could be used against the government…
Second, the US Government doesn't care much about the legality of their trial tactics. After all, they got Moussaoui locked up after they tampered with the jury and after they lied or gave false statements to withhold evidence from the public eye. (They refused to release the Flight 93 transcript to the public, on the grounds that it would hinder the NTSB investigation. However, according to the NTSB, they had no plans to investigate. (Read the very short statements on all 4 9/11 flights in their accident database.))

When would those who are responsible for the deaths of millions of Iraqis,Afghans,Pakistanies,Palestinians,and others such Vietnamese put on trial?
Never!Thier life is not worth much.They are not even worth counting.
And if ever those responsible were put on trial and ever convected ,they would certainly get pardoned in few years such was the case with the My Lai Massacre .
