Obama Admin. Blatantly Lied About SEAL Team Killing Bin Laden in Self-Defense

From the Washington Post, news that the Obama administration completely lied about the killing of bin Laden being in self-defense:

Bin Laden apparently was shot in the head when he looked out of his bedroom door into the top-floor hallway of his compound as SEALs rushed up a narrow stairwell in his direction, according to former Navy SEAL Matt Bissonnette, writing under the pseudonym Mark Owen in “No Easy Day.”

…The author writes that the man ducked back into his bedroom and the SEALs followed, only to find the man crumpled on the floor in a pool of blood with a hole visible on the right side of his head and two women wailing over his body.

Bissonnette says the point man pulled the two women out of the way and shoved them into a corner. He and the other SEALs trained their guns’ laser sights on bin Laden’s still-twitching body, shooting him several times until he lay motionless. Only when they wiped the blood off his face, were they certain it was bin Laden.

These revelations illustrate two important points from the bin Laden raid. First, the Obama administration pathologically lies about the nature of their secret operations in order to make targeted killings seem like self-defense when they are not and thus to immunize the operatives and the administration. This should be a lesson coloring our perceptions of everything from drone strikes to other elite commando raids, most of which we know comparatively little next to the Abbottabad operation.

The other point falls somewhere along the lines of what Noam Chomsky wrote immediately following the assassination operation on bin Laden. “It’s increasingly clear that the operation was a planned assassination, multiply violating elementary norms of international law,” he wrote. “There appears to have been no attempt to apprehend the unarmed victim, as presumably could have been done by 80 commandos facing virtually no opposition…In societies that profess some respect for law, suspects are apprehended and brought to fair trial.” But if President Obama suspects you’ve done wrong, no court or trial or judge are needed; he’ll just kill you by royal decree.

  1. Oh, goody…now we have a disagreement–not over whether Osama was actually killed, or not–but, over how and where he was 'killed…'
"The dawg ate my homework…"…" We dumped the body of our most wanted terrorist into the deep blue sea…an'…an'…so there!"….The book is a pile of propaganda to lend support to a myth created by the Regime…Meanwhile "the Toilet" is running over with American support in Libya and Syria…or anywhere else that terrorists are needed to create chaos and overthrow governments that don't toe the City/New York policy line…

      1. That is the whole idea. The story we are being told by the seal, and the discrepency, is attempted at verifying the killing — which never took place. OBL died many moons ago, and not at the hands of the US government.

  2. If it was really bin laden, he would have been encredibly valuable as an intelligence asset in a debriefing.

  3. It wasn't a lie in our government's Newspeak. "Defend" means attack, as in Dept. of "Defense".

"Peace" means war. "Freedom" means slavery.

  4. I haven't read Bissonette's book- it is available on Kindle only at this time- but based on the Huffington Post article dated 8/28/12, it appears the Seals were instructed by the lawyers NOT to make this an assassination mission, but to bring him back alive unless the Seals were under threat of danger. Specifically, the article states:

"During a meeting with top commanders, a lawyer from either the Pentagon or the White House "made it clear that this wasn't an assassination," writes Owen, who recounted the instructions: "I am not going to tell you how to do your job. What we're saying is if he does not pose a threat, you will detain him." " (See: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/28/no-easy-… )

This was the right instruction, and the Adminstration must be credited for it. But when the Seals assassinated bin Laden, the Administration (Obama, Panetta, Clinton, and of course Brennan who was the first one to lie) hustled to cover it up with a feel good narrative to provide cover for itself and the Seal team which obviously went ahead without adhering to the order. (Given the description of the team and their attitude, it is not surprising they took the law into their own hands.) Obama took the cowardly way out- after all how would it have looked if he had investigated and prosecuted the team for the assassination? Extrapolating from this, one wonders what Obama will do if Israel attacks Iran? Will he lie and offer some lame excuse before supporting the Israelis in a war crime, or will he follow up with the same toughness shown recently by General Dempsey to prevent it from happening, or if it does, make clear that there will be consequences to Israel.

  6. Certain questions arise from the US administration account on Bin Laden killing:
    1) It is really strange that noone from Bin Landen's team or bodyguards was alarmed by the noise of the approaching helicopters. Assuming that the choppers were Blackhawks the noise level is 120dB. In the silence of the night 6km ahead of the helicopters the noise level is 44dB. Enough noise to alarm a night watch. Assuming a cruise speed of about 140 knots the 6km turned into 1.5 to 2 minutes before choppers arrival. Enough time for a night watch to react, or THERE WAS NOT A NIGHT WATCH?
    2) One of the helicopters accidentally crashed her tail during the approach so the pilots made a forced landing. Accidentally? or THE NIGHT WATCH OPENED FIRE AND SHOT DOWN THE HELICOPTER?
    3) It is really very odd that the so well organized Al Qaeda had no plan available for Bin Landen's evacuation in the case of air raid, or for SOME REASON BIN LANDEN WAS FEELING SAFE?
