GOP Leader in Reversal, Schedules Vote on Pro-Israel Resolution
|
|
House GOP Whip Tom DeLay has reversed a commitment he made to the White House to put on hold a pro-Israel resolution. H. Res. 392, "Expressing Solidarity with Israel," will be heard today (Thursday) in a rather unusual fashion. Supporters announced Wednesday afternoon that they will take it up on the suspension calendar tomorrow, which by the rule is not allowed on Thursdays. They need to get a special vote to allow this to happen. This may be a way to prevent other members from claiming time in opposition to the bill, which will prevent voices of dissent. Delay's sneak attack has reportedly taken the an unhappy Administration by surprise. Now is the time to get on the phone and call your congressional represenatives let them know that the US can't be an honest broker in the Middle East unless this resolution is defeated. |
