Your freedom was the first casualty of the "global war on terrorism" and the government still says you aren't secure. Its own National Threat Advisory level never falls below "Elevated"! As a senator, Barack Obama supported reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT Act despite the fact that he had earlier noted civil liberties problems with the law. And he signed up for the FISA Amendment Act, which purported to make warrantless wiretaps legal and gave telecoms a free pass for helping out with the Bush administration's domestic surveillance program. It's too early to tell what he'll do as president. But it's clear that we can't count on leaders in Washington to respect the freedoms they claim the "war on terror" is supposed to protect. Antiwar.com gives you the facts about the government's attacks on our rights in the name of security. We challenge the conventional wisdom, ask tough questions, and empower you to decide for yourself whether the supposed benefits of the "war on terror" are greater than the costs. Strike a blow for freedom. |
