Patriot Act and dictatorship

Be careful how you protest. The Patriot Act states that anything "intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population [or] to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion..." Let's hope that Bush doesn't feel intimidated by polls, which show a distinct lack of support for war on Iraq....

"Invading Iraq: Would the public go along?"

Let's hope not. Polls show that Americans are still wary of a war with Iraq. Therefore, Bush must sell his war by illustrating that there is a "clear and present danger." No matter the outcome of his endeavor, history shows that a lack of public support hasn't stopped the government before.

Disneyland and the NSA

A Disney executive has decided to leave the private sector for the public one. His expertise in entertaining kids and adults alike should come in handy at the government's secret spy division.... If you have an expertise in being nosy, intrusive, wasteful, bureaucratic, untrustworthy, deceitful and evil, then sign on up.

The UK has caught the injustice bug

In a White Paper entitled "Justice for All," serious change is proposed for one of the oldest legal systems in the world. It means less trial by jury, more double jeopardy and more judicial discretion. More coverage of this dramatic shift in judicial policy.

The key to peace

Murray Polner details his solution to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Its starts with a dismantling of the settlements coupled with a change of leadership. His critique of the extremism of the Israeli government and the growing disdain the American public has over US support of the former is a must read.

Earning a Red Star

Any essay that includes "When we had a Bill of Rights in America . . ." will shock a few liberty conscious citizens. I wonder if other documents are going to become as irrelevant.

How's That, Again?

Is globalism the mindset of the quintessential neutral nation? Somehow Kofi Annan believes that "Switzerland is in many ways a vivid example of what the United Nations stands for." How is that? I don't recall Switzerland making international laws that can't be enforced, sending troops to nations around the world and being a overall nosy nation.

A Syrian evaluation of a US senator

Sen. Graham has claimed that the US must bomb Syria in order to destroy "camps" that" threaten" our mainland. Minister Ghazi al-Aridi said Graham's comments seemed intended for the ears of US voters with mid-term elections coming up in November. "This is for consumption ahead of...the election campaign."

"Islam and Markets"

Imad A. Ahmad writes: "The rising tide of Islam today is in part a reaction against the Arab socialism that has destroyed the markets of the Muslim world." An interesting discussion of the influence and spread of trade and Islam. The Koran apparently teaches the principles of property and economic freedom. Mr. Ahmad makes an interesting reference to Murray Rothbard.
