No threat to me

"Does Iraq truly threaten the existence of our nation?" asks a member of the former UN weapons inspection. Given the evidence, or lack thereof, of "weapons of mass destruction," Iraq poses very little threat to the United States. Unfortunately, the "lust for war" that dominates the administration's war hawks is impeding the path towards peace.

"Go on, call Bush's bluff "

Despite the fact that "Iraq's political and economic isolation in the Middle East is all but over," US policy makers intend to incite conflict with Iraq. The solution: invite UN weapons inspectors back into Iraq to confirm that the US premonitions about "weapons of mass destruction" are false, dishonest and misleading. Once the world and especially America knows that a threat doesn't exist, peace and safety will replace war and tension.

Fear and racism

A family of Arab Israelis was attacked for being just that, Arab. After the police ignored the complaints of racism, the family recognized the fear that Israelis have for Arabs is being transformed into a hatred and isolation. Unfortunately, not just cultural walls are being erected.

"Sharon Hails Deadly Air Strike"

Sometimes headlines tell the tale. The costs of war: to kill one leader of Hamas, it meant the death of nine children. Whomever claims, or in this case hails, that such an outcome is "a great success", better reevaluate their concept of justice. For once, due criticism was heard from DC.

"One Must Be Realistic"

"The fact is that Mr. Bush's war on terrorism is 95 percent hot air and 5 percent genuine threat. I doubt future terrorists will be as lucky as their predecessors," explains Charlie Reese. The bureacratic proposals and new institutions intended to fight this inflated "war" will never succeed because of the nature of bureacracy, government and the methods of terrorism.

A Carnivore hungry for meat

"Security experts say that the level of government Internet monitoring is not likely to subside..." reports one source. Expanding the breadth of government interference in individual's lives has become a public goal. The FBI has been involved in hacking emails and watching internet traffic for years and now, due to recent events, they appear to have sanction for even more powers.

We're getting good at meddling

I will never forget the slap on the hand that I received from Grandma after sneaking into the cookie jar. Analogously, US involvement in protecting other nation's leaders from their own people will only leave our bottom redder.

Settlement and peace

Both sides of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict have problems to solve. While the extremists Palestinians hinder the peace process with bombings, settlements are Sharon's favorite tool for the same end. Apparently, a budget crisis is not halting the expansion of Israeli property nor Sharon's ultimate goal of "permanent Israeli control of about 60% of the West Bank."

Star Wars revisited

Our national borders are not the limit. Nor is 100 miles off of our coasts or the long distances to other continents. Our military bases, placed in more than 150 countries, display American hegemony throughout the world. The last boundary, space (the final frontier?), is the final place the US military intends to "dominate."
