The Persecuted (sic) Minority: Big Business
I
admit, I usually sneer at those who yell "corporatism!"
and "Boo big business!!" (read former Randian). Who else
to make me review my beliefs but Pat Buchanan? He
writes of the recent bailout of Brazil to the tune of $37
billion:
American banks have about $25.6 billion in outstanding
loans to Brazilian borrowers. Citigroup, the biggest lender
to Brazil, has $9.7 billion in Brazilian loans.
The US funded IMF has stepped up to help the banks,
oops, I mean Brazil. "Corporatism! Boo big business!!"
The
real threat to liberty: Ashcroft
Welcome
to Ashcroft's America:
Ashcroft's
plan, disclosed last week but little publicized, would
allow him to order the indefinite incarceration of U.S.
citizens and summarily strip them of their constitutional
rights and access to the courts by declaring them enemy
combatants.
Oh I can't wait until Johnnie's vision becomes a reality,
because my liberty, freedom and rights were becoming such
a heavy burden!
Scared
of ghosts
If a nation such as Iraq, with its crappy military, SCUDs
that carry firecrackers for explosives and tanks made
by the Soviets, is so "easy" to defeat, why the constant
reminders of supposed threats Saddam poses? Helen Highwater
knows:
America is in no danger from Iraq.
This
conclusion begs the question: then what is America in
danger of?
*cough*
empire
*cough*
Poor
Hatfill
Scape-goating
has become an art-form in the hands of the FBI and the
mainstream media. Like a virus,
the rumors and accusations that Stephen Hatfill is the
anthrax mailer have spread to numerous news outlets, which
have created an imaginary school named "Greendale" and
a story ripe for the conspiracy theorist.
Bring the McCarthy hearings back!
Reds in Europe?
Come on, European intellectuals never criticize
America for its values of individualism, freedom and capitalism.
Nevertheless, it seems that
these people are running things again, with the help of
who else... the US government. Where is Joe
McCarthy when you need him?
Say
what?
Whoa! The
National Review, normally the place to hear war cries
and screams of "nuke Mecca!", is running
a piece against the war in Iraq. Doug Bandow's words are
rarely heard at NRO, so I quote:
War is a serious
business. Making war on a country which does not threaten the
U.S. is particularly serious. Even if the optimists who think
a campaign against Iraq would be easy are right, and we can
only hope they are, war should be a last
resort.
