Email Dialog

Kevin: I would hope you peaceniks would all visit this site. We aren't going to be able to negotiate our way out of this hole, no matter how desperately you believe it to be so. With the warhawk reactionary *ssholes on one side, and you peace-at-any-cost fools on the other, the women of Afghanistan are paying the ultimate price. I hope you see this young woman in your dreams tonight, and begin to wonder if there are perhaps some things for which we must fight.

Eric Garris: You need to read our site more. We support RAWA and have run several of their articles. But I would have you note that:

  • Women are treated this way by other Wahibi Muslims, like the ones in Saudi Arabia.
  • Bush has announced that we have no intention of overthrowing the Taliban.
  • RAWA has condemned the war plans and urges the US to stay out of Afghanistan.
  • This is exactly the tactic that is used in war propaganda. Show the photos of the people who are suffering to justify a policy that ends up killing them.

Did you bother to read any of the articles on our site, or did you look at the name and decide to write a letter? I sent similar emails to the right-wing jerks as well, asking them if their desire for revenge would be satisfied with the suffering it will cause the people of Afghanistan.

Kevin:
Ideologues of all kinds are the cause of great mishchief to our species, and great misery. The True Believer is a loaded gun, waiting for the charismatic leader to pull his trigger.
I don't know how you personally feel about it, but I find that the various religions and mass movements of the world are the greatest enemy to peace on our planet, and that the women and children are the ultimate victims.

I am scared sh*tless that we are about to enter a fanatic holy war with "our" Christians against "their" Muslims. At the same time I am horrified to think that we will do nothing for the women and children of Afghanistan, that the peacenik Idealogues are more concerned with validating their fanaticism than they are for actually doing something.

My father was in the foreign service during the 60's, when I was a teenager -- we lived in Kabul for two years. I feel an affection for the people I met while living there, and am desperately unhappy that either too much or not enough will be done.

I will spend some more time investigating what your site has to say. I readily admit a too-brief glance is not fair.

Outcasts

Boy, do my husband and I feel like outcasts. We question this uproar to bomb something, when we don't have the facts. Thank you for your website. I sure hope more open their eyes to what is really going on, and read their history. I pray for the people lost, and feel very onsafe in my own little world, but what Washington is hoping to do, won't bring those people back and won't make me feel anymore safe. Keep up the good work.

Antiwar.ru?

Being a crotchety Neo-Leftie, I should despise you Evil Capitalist Running Dogs, but I would like to say that your coverage -- and analysis -- of the WTC events has been outstanding. Here in Russia, I've found it to be much more incisive that CNN (but is that surprising?). Actually, it parallels a lot of the Russian coverage.

What If

What if you were a victim of the tragedy on Sept.11, 2001? What if it was one of your family members that died? How would you feel? What would you want done?

To all of you who think nothing should be done to retaliate, wait until someone hurts or kills you or your family and then tell me nothing should be done.

This group of terrorists has blown up 2 U.S. embassies, the U.S.S. Cole, the first attempt on the WTC, and who knows what else. How many Americans must die until you would want action? Over 7,000 have died already. Do you really think these zealots will stop attacking us if we just do nothing? I think they will continue to attack all and any U.S. targets until we stop them.

The "Backtalk" editor replies:

I suggest that you read Justin Raimondo's column of September 28, "Kill'em and Get Out."

Compliments

I've been checking out Antiwar.com for two or three months now, and really enjoy it. I'm not a Libertarian but I do agree with much of what I read on your site. I also appreciate the abundant and well selected head-lines and stories from diverse sources. I do think however that if Justin Raimondo is gonna do the dangling cigarette bit, he ought to have a hat.

Sneak Move

Could the imminent military deployment and action in Afghanistan to "get" Bin Laden be a convienient pretext to strengthen American influence and presence in the old Soviet backyard?

We are already hearing of the installation of a post-Taliban regime, the Northern Alliance.

Could this be a sneak move in the great Caspian Oil chess game?

~ Sotiri Bonanos

Callers Are Welcome

I've listed you on my web page for my nationally syndicated talk show. If you can list me as a source on the radio and Internet to hear an antiwar position, I'd appreciate it. Also, callers are welcome.
