Posted October 8, 2001 Empty Desert Following suggested as one of the "all time great quotes" of the 21st Century: "We did not ask for this mission but we will fulfil it." What a stupid, pathetic liar. I am really sorry for the American and British people, who are as a majority good people, and who are blindly following these morons off the edge of the cliff like a flock of sheep. Well, let's blow up some more empty desert (note the timing, on a Sunday in early afternoon, when most of America is home in front of the boob tube, to watch the show, swill beer, and chomp down on snacks; "Hey, we done hit them there ragheads back!"). What an absolute farce.
Patriotism As George Orwell has vividly noted, words are important. Patriotism, if you remember U.S. history, is standing up for your principles regarding the well being and liberty of your fellow man against oppression. Patriotism is most certainly not blindly cheerleading the government to save the world from itself while chipping away at your civil rights and freedom to dissent. Anytime someone accuses me of "taking my freedoms for granted," "giving in," "treason," etc., I simply remember George Washington's advice: Avoid foreign entanglements. ...Was not he a proud patriot? A quick note to the warmongers among you: If you want to wave the flag, do so by allying yourself to its original message: the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness under a Constitutional Republic. If you want me to celebrate the glory of the empire, however, count me out.
Freedom of the Press My experience of growing up in Taiwan meant hearing my parents telling me at the age of 7 not to trust what the newspapers say or any words from any government officials. At the same time, they told me, "Do not talk about this on a bus, or you will be arrested!" Here in the US our young are ... under the delusion that due to our "freedom of the press," they are immune to government propaganda. It leads to complacency where people innocently trust the New York Times, and the Washington Post. Unfortunately, I have found these two major newspapers to be almost akin to the People's Daily in propaganda content. These days I visit AntiWar.com and LewRockwell.com for columns that show critical thinking. As Noam Chomsky said, the citizens of a free society especially need a course in protecting themselves from propaganda. ~ Alice Ewing, Editor of Chinese American Media Watch
Chill It Out Thank
you so much...! This war madness needs to stop.
I'm solidly committed to chill it out every way
I can, and I can't express enough how much I appreciate
this site.
Blockwart After
what
Senator Joe Lieberman had to say on Jim Lehrer's
News Hour on PBS last night [September 23], I have
a fourth choice: "Operation Dump-the-Constitution."
Lieberman struck an Orwellian note as he intoned:
"I do think there's a new role for the individual citizen in America though in this new era of our history. In some ways the terrorists have made every citizen a combatant, including civilians. I think now it's the opportunity and responsibility of individual citizens to act that way. When they see things that bother them, that look suspicious, to call up their local police department or the FBI or hit the Internet for the appropriate web site to convey that information and be alert and be prepared." This was exactly what the Nazis in the Third Reich wanted from their citizens, and they did it. "Blockwart" system.
The Next Level I am willing to bet that for every terrorist that is killed during military strikes, at least 5,000 innocent people will die. (Innocent is defined as Afghan civilians, villagers, and even soldiers who are simply fighting to protect their homeland. Innocent people are also the masses of 18-year old American soldiers who don't fully understand why we are at war.) ...A war will simply increase terrorism. If the US escalates the war, it only makes sense for their opponents to go to the next level as well. What is the next level? Nuclear bombs? Chemical attacks? Crashing planes into nuclear facilities (as the masterminds of the 1993 WTC Bombing had planned)? Why replace deaths with more deaths? It makes no sense, but then again, when you look at the drug war, public education, and military spending you'll realize that few of the ideas of the government make sense. I appreciate the way this website has overcome these frenetic "patriots," and spoke out against the inevitable invasion of Afghanistan.
Invincible Ignorance Of course, none of this would be possible were it not for Operation "Invincible Ignorance." The conscious effort made by the overwhelming majority of Americans to ignore what has been going on right in plain sight for the last dozen years. Wake up America. End the nightmare.
Mafia Boss We ordinary American citizens are like the children of a Mafia boss who don't know what our dad does for a living, don't care, and can't understand why somebody tossed a fire bomb through the living room window. ~ C.L. |
