Headlines Disappearing

Earlier I saw a story posted on your site describing a large explosion and mushroom cloud near Kabul. Can you please tell me why it is now removed? What's up with headlines disappearing?

~ M.

Eric Garris replies:

Headlines get added, then moved from the main page to the news page as things happen. This story is still on the news page, but it turned out to be less significant than originally reported. In all likelihood, it was a fuel-air bomb, but we don't know for sure.

Al-Jazeera

Does Al-Jazeera have a website? Could you also link to any transcripts of propaganda coming from either bin Laden or the Taliban?

The only thing more dangerous than a propaganda war is a one-sided propaganda war. I'm angry at the corporate fascist media cartels for caving in to almighty Big Brother. I demand a "fair and balanced" propaganda war not a one-sided "US Government is all good all the time" PR campaign. I'm an independent critical thinker not a lemming-like group thinker!

The "Backtalk" editor replies:

Click here to go to Al-Jazeera's (Arabic-language) site; click here to find a site that will use software to translate the page into broken English; and here for an English language guide to Al-Jazeera.

Let's Capitulate

Al-Qaeda's expressed war aims have been consistent and well publicized. These war aims are:

  1. Lift sanctions on Iraq

  2. Do not station US military forces in the Arabian Peninsula (i.e. Saudi Arabia)

  3. Adopt a neutral position vis a vis the Palestinians

Hmm – forget appeasement, forget negotiation – I say let's just immediately capitulate and agree to unconditional acceptance of all three. Oh, but that would be rewarding terrorism will be the refrain from the War Party choir loft.

Hardly; according to our President, the Senate, and the House of Representatives, we were bombed in an act of war. Did the attack violate Jus In Bello? Certainly, but violations of the Law of War never stopped Americans from negotiating in the past.

Does anyone posit it is worth my (draft aged) children should risk their lives to continue Iraqi sanctions, to prop up the Saudi royal family, to continue meddling in the Israeli-Palestinian wars?

Information

...Great job on your web site. I find it very important to have you guys around, so my check is in the mail. Thanks for the information that our government doesn't want us to hear.

Two Policies

It's obvious, ... the USA has two separate policies on democracy: one that we tell our people, and the other that we force upon other....

When Macedonia was invaded by Muslim Albanian terrorists, Mrs. Rice told allies of Macedonia to stop selling weapons to them because true democracy would protect them, instead of AK47s. They were told, "You must give in to all the demands of the terrorists...."

When the USA is hit by Muslim terrorists on her own territory, all-out war is the only answer ... but the Macedonians cannot fight back or their funds would stop and sanctions would be imposed.

Business Opportunity

[Regarding Justin Raimondo's column of August 22, "Noonan's Madness":]

After reading Justin's very funny (and very sad) article today, I could not help but think he has exposed a good business opportunity. Justin's written before about being mistaken for "Middle-Eastern looking guy" before, hasn't he? Why not stake out Noonan's next field trip with a video camera? Antiwar.com should be able to make a buck or two off the recorded mayhem as Noonan tries to tackle Justin to the ground.

Thank you for Antiwar.com!

~ Rich M.

Antiwar Conservative

Thank heavens I found your site – I was beginning to think I was the only antiwar conservative in the world!

~ LGK, American, but not too happy about it right now
