Posted February 5, 2002 Osama's Plan Has anybody worked out Osama bin Laden's tactic to topple America yet? It seems to me that Osama planned all along to make America fight an all-out war against Muslim countries in the hope of draining the economy of the United States. The same tactic that the American's used to bring down the Soviet Union. As far as I can see the plan is moving full steam ahead! Grand Slam [Regarding Justin Raimondo's column of February 1, "Never Mind Osama / Let's conquer the world instead":] I just entered this one into the database. Pardon my French, but grand f*cking slam. ~ Tom K., Free-Market.Net Smashing Icons [Regarding Justin Raimondo's column of January 18, "Manufacturing Dissent / Noam Chomsky: He's really an interventionist and also completely clueless":] I'm a regular reader of Antiwar.com and especially of the editorials of Justin Raimondo. I enjoy his attention to detail and frequent dethroning of idols of both the self-described Left and Right. I was thus salivating over the prospect of a skewering of Noam Chomsky, a monolithic figure of the academic and, unfortunately, much of the anti-authoritarian ... Left. Surely such a figure, with such a large corpus of work to examine and such a long tenure of resting on his laurels, would be an easy target. However, I was disappointed to see that Raimondo seemed to have pinned his analysis on a single interview.... The evidence provided by the selected Chomsky statements seems to be less than damning. Though neither Raimondo nor the associated writers of Antiwar.com need any accolades, to my mind, Antiwar.com and Raimondo have some of the sharpest critiques of the military hegemony and imperialism of the United States that I've been able to find. ...Keep smashing those icons! Stolen Government [Regarding Justin Raimondo's column of January 18, "Manufacturing Dissent / Noam Chomsky: He's really an interventionist and also completely clueless":] In case you hadn't noticed, the so-called government "of, by and for" has already been indicted as well as branded by the world court for its terrorist atrocities across the globe. So has its puppet state, Israel. When people such as you ... wake up to the fact that your much-flaunted yet invisible "government of, by, and for" was stolen from you a long time ago and has been replaced by a single-interest oligarch of multinational mercantilist interests with its own set of string-jerked little second-class political hacks-for-hire ... you could actually possibly become a voice worth listening to with regard to the public role and civic responsibilities of, among other world-citizens, Americans. Bad to the Bone Kudos to Mr. Bock in his January 31 essay on Bush's speech. The most startling comment in the piece was his observation that Bush neglected to even mention Osama or Omar being brought to justice. I am convinced that this was never his priority and only served as a smoke screen to pursue the national suicide that he has proposed in the speech. State of the Union speeches have become a circus. I cannot bear the phony standing ovations and pep rally atmosphere. Our political system has become a parody of itself. The only thing missing is personalized entrance music for the participants like they do when professional wrestlers enter the ring. How about Bush coming out to George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone." If Charlotte Beers is reading this, you may very well see that at our next political rally – er, State of the Union. Conscience A Goldwater supporter once admitted, "I was warned before I voted, that if I voted for Goldwater, America would go to war. Sure enough, I voted for Goldwater and we went to war." In 2000, I was afraid that if a majority of people voted for Gore, we would be intervening in wars all over the globe and taking on all sorts of new public spending programs. Sure enough, a majority of people voted for Gore, and look what we have. Next time, I might throw away my vote on a third party candidate, but hopefully never again will I throw away my conscience. King George The lawlessness of this government is breathtaking even compared to the Clinton regime. Not only has Bush failed to give an explanation to congress and the people of why we are still in Afghanistan, especially since the targets of this incursion have fled, but he wants to expand this "war" (which is in violation Article I, Section 8) against a so called "Axis of Evil," as opposed to our own similar axis, i.e. Ashcroft, Wolfowitz, and Cheney. However, he's not merely satisfied with breaking domestic laws but also international law i.e. the Geneva Convention by calling prisoners of war "illegal combatants." President Bush seems an inappropriate appellant, it should be King George. ~ Robin A. |
