We get a lot of letters, and, up until now, haven't had the manpower to deal with posting them, let alone answering them. But that sad state of affairs is at an end with the inauguration of this "Backtalk" column, edited by Sam Koritz. Please send your letters to backtalk@antiwar.com. Letters may be edited for length (and coherence). Unless otherwise indicated, authors may be identified and letters may be reproduced in full.

Stunned & Speechless

How [does Nebojsa Malic] manage to retain any composure in the face of the outrages perpetrated by the West on the Balkans? I was stunned by the bombing of Serbia. I am stunned by the continuing Western actions in the region. It renders me close to speechless.

~ Roland Dion, San Diego, CA

Nebojsa Malic replies:

I suppose all of us have been frustrated to the point of giving up at one time or another. I do have such moments, whenever something truly outrageous happens and no one seems to care. But that's precisely the point: the people doing this may have the power to get away with it all - for now - but they do not have the power to make us agree with them. As long as we refuse to be silenced, and let our outrage be heard, they will not be triumphant. We win, every time we say no!

Reuters & AP Terminology (II)

Lubi Uzunovski in the letter "Reuters and AP Terminology" detected the systematic bias, manipulation, and deception of the Western media. Nothing in the media is by accident or chance. It is all planned systematically. They are businesses after all. Where do Reuters and the Associated Press (AP) get their perspective, slant, or propaganda line from? From their governments. I would suggest to Mr. Uzunovski to follow the money trail. Who owns AP and Reuters? Who are the capitalist/globalist investors? What links or ties do they have to what governments?

The modus operandi…of the information war in Macedonia is identical to that run in the Bosnia and Kosovo conflicts. Recall the oxymoron…"Croatian Serbs" instead of Krajina Serbs. It was coined at the US State Department. Using the term "Slavs" instead of Macedonians is merely a continuation of the earlier MO or pattern. You're only seeing half of the propaganda picture in the Macedonian conflict, however.

The second part of the propaganda campaign is to refer to the conflict as one by the aggrieved ethnic Albanians who demand "greater rights", "expanded" or "equal" rights or human rights. But every political analyst agrees that the Albanians have invaded from Kosovo, are KLA veterans, and their goals are identical to those in Kosovo: independence, …secession, [and the creation of] a Greater Albania.

Traficant's Trials

A trial in federal court is underway in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio of US Congressman James Traficant, who has taken an anti-Serb and pro-KLA stance in the US House. …Back in the late '70s, and early '80s, Traficant (whose last name was shortened from Traficante – ask somebody familiar with the Mob about that name)…was the sheriff of Mahoning County (Youngstown, Ohio), one of the most mobbed-up areas in the US. He was taken to federal court on bribery and income tax evasion charges, but beat the rap, mainly because the jury refused to believe FBI tapes of him taking money. He was conducting his own investigation, he said.

Anyhow, an article on C-Span's Roll Call Web site…has an article about Traficant's unreported, lobbyist-supported trips to Albania in 1999 and 2001.
