Posted May 17, 2002 Delighted [Regarding Justin Raimondo's column of May 15, "Spinning a Spy Scandal":] I can't tell you how delighted I was with your giving the smack down to Taranto in your latest post. Calling Antiwar.com a "crackpot" website really chaps my butt. I guess anyone who is against war is nuts. Illegals I was disappointed with today's column ["The Fearmongers"] by Justin Raimondo. I always look forward to his writing, as it is usually right on target. Today, however, he gets a few things wrong. He seems to have a soft spot for the immigrant, but an immigrant is an immigrant, not an American. In the column, Raimondo claims hundreds of Arab Americans have been arrested since 9/11. That is not true. The only two Americans in custody because of 9/11 are John Walker and an unidentified Saudi-American seized in Afghanistan. In reality, the "Arab-Americans" he speaks of are illegal aliens in custody for immigration violations. Not even one of them is a legal permanent resident (green card holder). Let's face facts. Bush and Ashcroft are not serious about rounding up illegals. They are even still issuing visas to Arabs. The approximately one hundred aliens in custody on immigration violations are a wide variety of Pakistani, Indian, Indonesian, and such. Another fact is that the pogroms predicted by liberals and libertarians such as Raimondo did not happen. Americans are just not like that. Justin Raimondo is right on regarding Israel, the spying, and America's inviting of the attack by our policies. Stay away from the immigration issue. It just isn't a winner for Raimondo. His other work certainly is a winner. Intelligence As I read Raimondo's column today, May 13, it again came to mind that in reality there is no intelligence community. A community implies a great number of persons. Such does not exist in any nation. The intelligence community in the Spanish American war was William Randolph Hearst. Few people criticized him. In the present, the intelligence community missed the opportunity to pick up Randy Weaver off the street in the Idaho town he visited regularly. It was more fun to kill his wife and baby. They, also, could have taken David Koresh in any time he visited Waco, which was often, but immolating a religious cult made better movies. Intelligence is rare, and is a factor of individuals. Could the old Arabic proverb be right? "Five per cent of the people think. Ten per cent of the people think they think, and eighty-five per cent of the people would rather die than think." ~ J. Philip Schediwy, Apple Valley, California Truth about Kosovo You and Ms. Jatras should be congratulated for your effort to print facts, and the truth about Kosovo, and the KLA. As we go forward, history will show that the Serbs were demonized by the western propaganda, and that KLA is just an extension of Bin Laden's networks. Cells exist today in Kosovo, Albania, and Bosnia. Should I mention the Benevolent Humanitarian Organization, whose Bosnian cell is now being investigated by FBI and NATO, for connections to Bin Laden in Chicago, Houston, and Bosnia? Thank you, Antiwar.com. Incisive Commentary Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate ... [Justin Raimondo's] extremely well-written and incisive commentary at Antiwar.com. Don't know how you manage to be so prolific. Just read your piece on the warbloggers. Awesome stuff. ~ Michael M. |
