Purpose of Education

Mr. Raimondo pointed out the case of a school attempting to suppress the anarchist cause at Sissonville High School in West Virginia.

Mr. Mencken ... pointed out (1922 – from Prejudices: Third Series):

"The fundamental purpose of education, in college as in the high-school and so on down to the kindergarten, is to set the young mind upon a track, and keep it running there in all decorum. The task of a pedagogue, in other words, is not to turn out anarchists, but to turn out correct and respectable citizens."

Racialization

[Regarding Justin Raimondo's column, "In Praise of Subversion":]

...I was disappointed that you racialized the Inglewood matter in the way you did. White people are not the automatic, sole racist haters in our society that you seem to think. I also noticed that you dredged up the old slur, "whitebread," in the same essay.

I would like to ask you not to racialize everything – our adversaries do that in great abundance and without help from us. I would also like to ask you not to use racialized slurs like "whitebread" as they are just white-bashing lite....

Better Nature

I'm a Muslim born and raised in the Mideast that later moved to Canada.

I'll be honest – I used to really despise Americans. Arrogant, racist, holier-than-thou, pyromaniacs – those were the words that came to mind when I thought of you guys. But seeing so many Americans like you folks at Antiwar.com speak out so passionately against the senseless warmongers is truly enlightening. If only I could show the many angry Muslims that their are so many good Americans who don't want to throw cruise missiles at them.

Keep up the excellent work and show the world the better nature of America.

Macedonian Tragedy

RE: Christopher Deliso article July 12, 2002, "Nobody's Fault But Their Own?":

...Macedonians are, yes, naive; yes, they are afraid to stand and be heard. That is due to many centuries of oppression training by Ottomans, Serbs, Bulgarians, Greeks, etc. Remember this is the first time in recent history that Macedonia stands alone independent, though obviously not for long. Macedonians never thought they would have to defend themselves against claims that Albanian rights were being denied, how could they fathom something so ridiculous when most Macedonian-Albanians lead wealthier and more prosperous lives than other Macedonians and when Macedonians were an oppressed minority of an Islamic Ottoman Empire for 500 years? Macedonians are used to being the trampled ones, not the "evil oppressors"....

I don't doubt that we Macedonians are not assertive; we are not currently fighting back because we have already lost hope, we have already seen the movie played by the Western media. Who do we fight against? Who would listen? We have been portrayed by the Western media as the bad guys, anything that can be used against us will. Our government is a NATO puppet government designed to confuse and bemuse us to the ridiculous and unfathomable situation we find ourselves in. Therefore, in the end the world will tell it was all our fault anyway. You should be writing a book about the Macedonian Tragedy, especially if you have first hand experience.

Shadows of '33?

About a year ago a friend of mine, a well respected author of several books, told me that the United States was only one step away from fascism. My facial expression prompted him to ask me why I thought that was impossible. "The people would never allow it," I knew with certainty.

That was then. I have since learned that the majority of people in the US are too self-absorbed to notice the transition. Our "government," a dictatorial and secretive thug of thieves right from the Floridian outset, is stealing our freedom from under our feet. The Nazis' right for lebensraum has merely been replaced by an unalienable right for soil with oil (Afghanistan, Iraq). Did they ever ask us about any of their far-reaching policies? And what do we do? We think it can't be true. We convince ourselves wir haben es nicht gewusst. Did it really all begin with 9/11? Or are these shadows of 1933, the year the Reichstag burned down?

American Principles

I wanted to write you [Justin Raimondo] today to thank you for your unwavering support of true American principles, especially since 9-11. I am relatively new to your column and site, but given what I've already seen in the last year or so, I am sure I will continue to visit your site on a regular basis. It is so refreshing to read an alternate view to today's current events versus the mainstream media.

I wasn't sure there was someone out there that could sum up my exact view of Bill Maher but you did! I think that was one of my favorite columns when you shared your experience of being a guest on Politically Incorrect. I can think of few shows that I disliked more, well maybe Crossfire when Paul Begala is the liberal co-host de jour....

Classic Routine

This latest government idea to battle terrorism sounds like something out of the old Soviet system or a Rod Serling short story. I remember when John Ashcroft was being worked over in his confirmation hearings and how I felt sorry for him. Now, I feel like a sucker, once again, for a political system that plays the classic "good guy, bad guy routine" with the American people to sell them stuff. With a few exceptions, conceptually, the behavior of the Federal Government is much like Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation with its ever changing feuds and phoniness. This latest proposal to get us to "rat" on one another is a disgrace and so is the behavior of the people responsible for it. Shame on you, John Ashcroft and company. Our Founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves!
