UPDATE!

After receiving thousands of protests, Loral Orion has reversed their decision to sever satellite internet service to Yugoslavia. Yesterday, Loral Orion, one of the largest US communication satellite companies told Belgrade ISP "Informatika" that because of a "high level request", it has to stop the Internet feed to all YU providers which are linked to the US ISPs.

Loral Orion has, after consulting with their attorneys, made a decision that the prohibition of commerce with Yugoslavia does not effect Internet services. The decision will stand unless contested by the federal government.

Their previous statement said, "This decision is a result of the Executive Order of President Clinton which prohibits broadcasting all US services to YU (Serbia and Montenegro)" says the message from LORAL ORION to the director general of "Informatika" Slobodan Sreckovic. "In accordance with that, LORAL ORION will, starting 5/12/99, halt their services."
