Attacks in Baghdad and an intense battle in Ramadi easily brought today's tally
to 191 Iraqis killed or found dead and 91 injured. Also, one
U.S. soldier was killed and five more wounded when militiamen attacked
their patrol in Baghdad. In Diyala province, another
U.S soldier was killed and another GI injured when a roadside
bomb blasted their vehicle. And a third American
soldier died after his vehicle rolled over during an accident near Talil.
Baghdad was the site of several attacks today: In the Bayaa district, a fuel
station was the target of three car bombs that killed
16 people and wounded 25 others. A pair of car bombs killed
five and wounded 12 in the Amil district. A roadside bomb blasted an Iraqi
army convoy in the Yarmouk district, killing
two and wounding four. A police patrol in Karrada was targeted by a roadside
bomb; two
policemen and two civilians were injured.
Also in the capital , two mortar rounds fell on a market in northern district;
two were killed
and five injured there. Another
two people were killed and 10 more injured when mortars landed on a popular
market in the Qahira neighborhood. Also in Qahira, gunmen attacked a minibus
carrying members of the Shia Endowment group, killing
15 of them and wounding seven. Another attack, this one on a group of police
recruits killed
seven and wounded 12 others. At least 60
bodies were discovered throughout the capital. Four
more were found in the Tigris River south of town.
In Ramadi, Iraqi troops and police killed
63 militiamen during a two-hour battle.
In Kirkuk, the body
of an abducted policeman was found buried inside a house. Two kidnappers
were arrested.
A car bomb in a Mahmudiya market killed
one person and wounded two others. Also, an Iraqi security officer
was injured by another car bomb.
The family of kidnap victim, Major Naser Abdul Rahman, found his
body at the morgue in Baquba. Also, a civilian
was gunned down at a bus stop.
In Khalis, two
policemen were killed and three civilians were injured when a car bomb exploded
near a group of policemen transferring detainees to the hospital. Gunmen fired
on a pick-up truck, killing
three employees of a private company and wounding six people. A
man was killed in the al Aumal area, and three
bodies were turned in to the morgue.
Two
women were shot in the chest in Muqdadiya, but their status is unknown.
And in the Diyala province, gunmen
killed a man and a woman in a car.
