Wednesday: 1 GI, 182 Iraqis Killed; 136 Iraqis Wounded

Numerous bombings rocked the country today. Overall, at least 182 Iraqis were killed and 136 more were wounded during various attacks. Yesterday, a GI was killed during a small arms attack in the capital. Also, lawmakers are considering imposing travel restrictions in an effort to curb the growing cholera epidemic.

In Baghdad, a double car bomb killed 32 people and wounded more than 50 in the Bayaa neighborhood. A suicide belt bomber killed a civilian and wounded another. Also, seven unidentified bodies were found dumped in several neighborhoods.

In Mosul, witnesses reported hearing four explosions during a single hour. In an incident at an unfinished government building, three people were killed and 50 wounded during a suicide bombing. Three people were killed and one soldier was wounded during bombings at army checkpoints east of the city. A civilian was wounded during a bombing in the al-Tahrir neighborhood. Also, police killed a suicide bomber before he could detonate his cargo.

A car bomb between Mosul and Arbil injured three Iraqi soldiers.

U.S. troops in Hilla attacked a mosque and killed its imam. In a separate incident, helicopter gunships killed five women and four children.

A suicide bomber targeting a tribal leader killed ten people and wounded nine more in Umm al-Thiban village near Sinjar; the leader was among the dead.

In Shurqat, a pair of car bombs killed seven people and wounded five more. One targeted a police patrol and the other a police station.

A family of five was killed in Balad Ruz shortly after an extremist group abducted them from a fake checkpoint.

In Diyala province, five people were killed during an explosion near a home. Two bodies were brought into the morgue.

The body of a three-year old was found near Baquba; he had been strangled and left in an irrigation ditch.

In Hawija, a grenade thrown at an Iraqi army patrol wounded four civilians instead. In the evening, a roadside bomb killed a police officer and wounded three policemen.

Gunmen killed two men in separate incidents in Iskandariya.

In Latifiya, the body of a man shot execution style was found

One policeman was killed and another wounded in al-Jazeera during a bomb attack.

A sniper killed a police captain in Basra. Five people were killed and five were wounded outside a Sunni mosque south of town.

Two militants were killed in Fallujah. Gunmen attacked a police station; three policemen were wounded, six gunmen were killed and five were arrested. Also, a suicide bomber detonated his cargo, but no one was killed.

U.S. troops killed three suspects and arrested two in Mussayab. They also killed three and detained eight more in other cities.

Iraqi troops killed seven suspects and detained 47 in different locations.

Combined U.S.-Iraqi forces and police have killed at least 65 more suspects in Muqdadiyah over the last five days. Ten had already been reported.
