Where Does the MilitaryIndustrial Complex come from? Egypt?

“A military-industrial complex (MIC) is composed of a nation’s armed forces, its suppliers of weapons systems, supplies and services, and its civil government.” — Wikipedia

The U.S. MIC has evolved – – –

SHARIF ABDEL KOUDDOUS: Egypt — the [Egyptian] military does get this $1.3 billion of [U.S.] aid, but it has to be spent purchasing U.S. weapons. And so, all of this money really gets funneled to U.S. defense contractors that are the real big beneficiary of these funds, that have very large lobbying firms in Washington and that lobby very strongly for this aid to keep going. … The Washington Post had a very interesting article today showing that since the 1980s the United States has granted Egypt an extraordinary ability to make these orders with these American defense contractors that are worth far more than the funds Congress has already appropriated. So it’s essentially like this massive credit card that Egypt has, with a limit of billions of dollars. And it’s something called “cash flow financing.” So Egypt can submit these large orders for equipment that will take years to produce and deliver, and it’s under the assumption that U.S. lawmakers will just continue funneling the aid. The original insight – – –

“In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

“We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.” Military-Industrial Complex Speech, Public Papers of the Presidents, Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1960, p. 1035-1040

In an early draft, Mr. Eisenhower more accurately called it “the militaryindustrialcongressional complex.”

    1. Well This post is probably where I got the most useful information for my research. Thanks for posting, maybe we can see more on this. Are you aware of any other websites on this subject hi5

  2. @L. Reichard White: «In an early draft, Mr. Eisenhower more accurately called it “the militaryindustrialcongressional complex.”»

Me: Yes, I picked up on the 'C' some time ago, and extend it to:

    M/I/C/$4a†-plex = military, industrial, Congress (US-speak for parliament); $ = banksters, 4 = 4th estate = MSM+PFBCs, 'a' = academia incl. think-tanks, † = the churches.

There is a 2nd related entity:

I/J/Z-plex; illegitimate IL squats on genocidally ethnically-cleansed = improperly alienated, mainly Palestinian ELO/Os' land/property = IL is an un-remedied crime-scene and *all* I/J/Z-plex (except any actively opposing) are more or less guilty; sole remedy = reparations = revest where possible, adequate = acceptable recompense where not + *sincere* apology.

ELO/Os = erstwhile legal owner/occupiers (here mostly Palestinian).

These descriptions are developed from my observations since I discovered one particular PFBC = publicly-financed broadcaster, namely the AusBC, had deliberately disseminated misleading information, over my recalled lifetime up until then (and continues to do so), specifically, that the aggressive alien invaders (pre- and post-29Nov'47) had some sort of right to commit the "supreme international crime" and live on thus stolen land.

Now we see the other, equal world's worst rogue-regime performing serial "supreme international crimes" (since 2001 Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, currently Syria with Iran next in Wesley Clark's reported queue) which the MSM + PFBCs fail to accurately report upon. That's the 4 = 4th estate, which make themselves accessories = more or less guilty of mass-murdering for spoil. As the UN similarly makes itself accessory, by offering no effective, countervailing force = its raison d'être.

The M/I/C/$4a†-plex is a 'leadership' problem; each component operates largely independently of we, the people in our sham democracies (see here).

The I/J/Z-plex problem is worse, involving a vast proportion of a self-identified grouping. When you consider that their ultimate 'prestige-project' is based on such vicious crimes and tries to hide between a screen of filthy lies, one realises how far current civilisation is limping behind one of mankind's greatest 'though experiment' achievements = the Enlightenment.

    Truth + justice = peace.

    1. Kept trying to find something to disagree with, alatheia, but I came up empty. NICE job! Do you have a link to your stuff – – – may use your derivation of "M/I/C/$4a†-plex = military, industrial, Congress (US-speak for parliament); $ = banksters, 4 = 4th estate = MSM+PFBCs, 'a' = academia incl. think-tanks, † = the churches" and you should get credit – – –

  3. @L. Reichard White: "…came up empty. NICE job!"

Me: High praise and thanks; of course you may use M/I/C/$4a†-plex (here slightly expanded as a BTW), or please be aletheia's guest.

If I may, a brief digress and return to a point previously opened but not pursued, namely: «hierarchical political "leadership"» and «tribes without 'leaders.'» That prior discussion reminded me of altruism, alleged to work in small groups where every one knows everyone else (originated in groups related to one another is a theory), but without assistance, not well if at all in larger groups, when self-(re)enforcement fails – a similar mechanism behind a failure-mode of 'remote' leaders, perhaps?

Another BTW; agree to your "grass-roots response" – see "Democracy v. Demarchy" and aletheia's "IF anarchism THEN back to the jungle" comment (sort by 'Last Activity' and scroll down a bit.)

Now, I see a few mentions of altruism on this TABLE of CONTENTS page, but the links fail. However, I'm not an expert anyway (have dabbled, see Fair punishment supports human altruism and Why altruism paid off for our ancestors), but this all reminded me of one of my favourite short stories And Then There Were None by Eric Frank Russell, also as a lead-in, mentioned here. If you need any extra incentive, as you may see from the URLs, it's classified as libertarian by some. Rgds.

    1. Hi aletheia!

Well the easy part first. I know of and celebrate "And Then There Were None." Hopefully (with OWS & The Tea Party which should be allies) something like that may be on the way in "real" life. But not holding my breath – – –

Thanks for the two articles, Fair punishment supports human altruism and Why altruism paid off for our ancestors). I particularly found the second article interesting.

Although it isn't public yet, I put up the main The HI-JACKING of CIVILIZATION chapter on altruism, Chapter 12, Where Altruism Came From. It's a pretty rigorous treatment, explicitly addressing the "group selection" problem. You may find it interesting.

Also, thanks particularly for your post on the legal significance of "acquiescence," etc. Also "Washington's Blog piece on professional politicians and oligarchy.

Finally, chagrined again: Updated the on-line TABLE of CONTENTS but forgot to include the caveat "AT THIS TIME, ONLY THE MATERIAL THROUGH CHAPTER 7, What's Wrong With Hierarchy, IS AVAILABLE ON-LINE!!"

Thanks to your feedback, that's now fixed.

      1. @L. Reichard White: «I know of and celebrate "And Then There Were None."»

Me: Good to know; I found it first rather by chance in the late 60s, in Year’s Best Science Fiction Novels: 1952.

There was a 3rd item on altruism in NS: Dangerous games: selfishness v altruism on climate change, it bothered me enough for me to post a comment (smile). I stopped subscribing to the magazine not too long after; it just became too annoying.

Thanks for Chapter 12, will read it ASAP; busy long w/e coming up. Looking forward to reading some more; "Anti-authority Explained" sounds intriguing (does such need a cure?)

As for OWS&ilk, something like that *succeeding* is definitely needed, rgds.

PS I am now, personally, a victim of the NSA (I used lavabit eml@s):

        "My Fellow Users,
I have been forced to make a difficult decision: to become complicit in crimes against the American people or walk away from nearly ten years of hard work by shutting down Lavabit. After significant soul searching, I have decided to suspend operations."

PPS Further from above quote "Congress has passed laws that say otherwise."

Me: IF so-called 'representatives' are corrupt THEN no law they pass may be considered valid, and in particular, no wars may be initiated, nor any taxation validly imposed.

        Bah!

        1. Aletheia, thanks for the other altruism link!

If you're interested in any of my other chapters, drop me a note at the email below, will be glad to link you — many aren't finished enough for prime time. In fact for sub-prime time, but would be more than happy to share the decent ones.
