This Is Something John Kerry Actually Said

This is something Secretary of State John Kerry actually said. It is not from The Onion:

“You just don’t in the 21st century behave in 19th century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped up pretext.”

He was criticizing Russia’s incursions into Crimea and Ukraine. But the condemnation apparently did not strike him as hypocritical.

Micah Zenko, of the Council on Foreign Relations, noted the hypocrisy on Twitter:

  1. I heard Kerry say this not once, but twice today on the talking head shows. I looked into Kerry's eyes and I saw a liar, a hypocrite and a sociopath all rolled into one.

    1. You have a stronger stomach than I do, Ryan. Kerry is an embarrassment to this country and is no diplomat – although R2P Susan Rice would probably have been worse. When I see the goon Kerry or the clowns McCain or Graham on tv, I just turn the channel. I've heard quite enough of them.

  2. Well I guess that makes the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine more acceptable. You "anti-war" guys crack me up. Must be nice to pretend to be "anti-war" as a cloak for your blatant anti-Americanism. Yeah don't condemn Russian aggression. Condemn somebody who had nothing to do with the Iraq war instead. Good call. This whole site is hypocritical and laughable.

    1. Although war is war, there's a pretty good case that any actions Russia took at this point would have a defensive element as a democratically elected government was overthrown by mobs in the street definitely with some U.S. backing though I'm not sure how critical the U.S.backing was.

    2. "Condemn somebody who had nothing to do with the Iraq war instead"

iraq was not the only war the united states is involved in.

    3. Gandhi – is this a variation of "Ghandi"? In any case, a ill-fitting cloak for ignorant, jingoistic comments. And , why does "anti-war" crack you up? Surely, casual advocacy for a militaristic solution to everything doesn't "crack me up". It scares and saddens me.
I have little idea of what is best for Ukraine, but I also doubt that anyone would be shocked if the USA invaded to protect American citizens or interests given an incipient violent revolution in Canada or Mexico. No-one should be expected to go about their own business if the house next door is in flames.

    4. Kerry voted for the war in Iraq. He has the blood of upwards of 1,000,000 Iraqi civilians killed and grievously wounded dripping from his hands .. . . ALL FOR A LIE!. He has a lot of cheek ordering other countries not to invade on the redundant and self-cancelling phrase 'trumped-up pretexts, ' since he voted to invade Iraq on just such a trumped-up pretext only 10 years ago.

    5. Ummm Gandhi pal? The US/NATO was mucking around in the Ukraine for quite sometime. Ask Vicky Nuland how much cash the US squandered setting up their "regime change." Oh wise one, what are Israeli Mossad operatives doing stirring up chaos in Kiev? Last time the Ukraine held an election, the UN monitored the affair and according to the UN the election was free and fair. Seems like there was an icky little coup d'état in Kiev the Ukraine and the US was behind all of it. The Russians have been pushed about to the limit of Vlad Putin's patience. About damn time too. The US meddles and invades on a whim. Enough is enough. How is Antiwar.com being "anti-American'? Listen you urine-swilling buffoon, there is none so 'hypocritical' as one that lives in blindness and swallows administration propaganda like the kool-aid it is.

    6. I spent 5 years in the Marine Corps ready and willing and able to repel ALL threats to our nation and Constitution. That doesn't render me incapable of knowing when my Govt and current office holders are acting like total asses. Reigniting a cold war or starting a HOT war with Russia over events on her front steps, borders on lunacy. We couldn't even defeat the Afghanis after 13 years.
Russia and perhaps sided by China would eat our lunch- comprehensively. It is a new world, Gandhi.

  3. Hy, cremlins mafiosis at "Anti-War. blog". Putin turned out is a Hitler ant Stalin in One Person. He will be crashed afterwards.

    1. Really, Aleksy, what Putin may or may not be is of no concern, and smearing him is of no interest to me at this point. The discussion concerns the socio/psycho-pathic utterances of certain US officials and their inability, like vampires, to see their own reflections.

    2. Hitler? Ok but the neo-nazis are actually on the other side, at least part, some say a major part. Ok so a neo-nazi movement doesn't a Hitler make, but it's troubling. And Hitler and Stalin roled into one person? Ok make the case then. What has Putin done that makes him Hitler and Stalin roled into one? Because that's a heck of a charge there. If the charge is imperialist aims, Putin's got nothing on the U.S..

    3. I nominate the trifecta of Petraeus, MacChrystal and Ricardo Sanchez to "crash" Putin.

Perle, Wolfowitz and RummyDummy to provide civilian oversight.

Bremer to administer the post-crashing 'lebensraum.'

sarcasm in case it wasn't readily evident.

  4. Russia views Sevastopol as essential to its ability to defend its interests and it has no intentions of losing control of Crimea to a country aligned with Nato. It was America who funded the thugs who toppled the legitimately elected president of Ukraine. Yanukovych may be a thief and a weak leader, but if so, wait for the next election and vote him out of office. To pay thugs to take to the streets and incite a civil war is direct aggression on the part of the United States. It would be akin to the Russians funding the new confederacy in an attempt to remove Obama from office. Supporters of American imperialism are of the opinion that the entire world is rightly subject to American domination and if any nation or peoples object, America has every right to bomb, invade, or destroy. All in the name of peace and freedom, but in reality, for the purpose of total control by American elites.

    1. yanukovich may have stolen millions from ukraine… so what.

the al saud are stealing hundreds of BILLIONS from their people but we make no mention of that

  5. The double standard in Kerry's statement aside, Russia's pretext is not trumped up. The regime in Kiev is not a legitimate regime. Around 16 or 17 (out of 24) regional governments have resigned. Most in the Eastern part have declared they do not recognize the regime in Kiev as a legitimate government. The government of Crimea asked Russia for help to defend themselves against the west-Ukranian nationalists attempting to infiltrate and impose themselves on Crimea. Hardly a shot was fired – since most the Ukranian army there switched to the pro-Russian side. Ukraine's entire naval command resigned. Half their ships, including Ukraine's flagship, defected to the Russian side. This is not because of fear, but because the armed forces in the East are pro-Russian, and many are ethnic Russians. In fact, this so called "aggression" by Russia involved less violence than the overthrow of Yanukovich in Kiev !
This is really about the politicians in DC demanding that the installed regime in Kiev be recognized as a legal government. They pretend that's already been established, and then criticize from there.

    1. The tecnical term for what went down in Kiev after the government had reached agreement with the parliamentary opposition is "Putsch," spearheaded by neo-Nazi Right Sector and fascist Svoboda shocktroops, but underwitten with the connivance of high U.S. officials.

      1. this coup had the same ingredients as rhe overthrow of irans elected government in 1953 by us and uk spies.. paying street gangs and leading them into battle with police

  6. Secretary of State -LEMMING – John Kerry

member of the order of Skull and crossbones

undergraduate senior secret society at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut.

and his global moral and diplomatic leadership !!!

    FreeDOOM & demoNcracy YEAHAAA!

for our future that never comes

He was distinctly a man of his times. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and his errant statements have become global punch lines . l .
It is all becoming a stinking humongous monstrosity .

    In our society101 in decline

    selfdeception is selfdestruction

    1. An Ivy League degree does not promise knowing how to run this country. The top echelons of Democratic and Republican administration are loaded with them. So is the Supreme Court. Look at the Presidential nominees. Now look at our ignorant and vicious foreign policies. You could not get this garbage past an introductory international relations class at the University of Oklahoma.

  7. What Kerry is basically saying, is that only the Imperial government of the United State has the God giving right to invade any country of their choice.

    1. Sooner or later an outraged world will say "Enough!", form a strategic alliance(s) against us and start kicking our sorry asses out of their lands.

To the extent that Kerry's in-your-face hypocrisy helps hasten that event, I say "Bring it on!"

  8. I don't understand some of these comments. How does exposing and criticizing American hypocracy equate to lionizing Putin and supporting Russia?

    1. 1) None of the comments lionize Putin.
      2) Kerry's statement, while can be agreed with superficially (despite its hypocrisy), is a brazenly false presentation of events.
      3) Supporting the right of Russians living in Ukraine not to be overrun by uncloaked anti-Russian bigots from the west of Ukraine – is not the same as supporting each and every policy of the Kremlin. Putin's coddling of Egypt's al-Sisi for instance is despicable and hypocritical by itself.
      4) As for Ukraine – Ukraine easterners are not complaining about the Russian actions in Crimea – they've not asked outside powers for help against an invasion. So why is it any business of Kerry? Ah, because he wants the installed regime in Kiev to be recognized as somebody's boss. It's the power-grabbers in Kiev crying invasion, but Kiev is not being invaded. Kerry is upset his puppets are turning out to be kings-of-nothing.

  9. Ryan is right on! Mr. Kerry — and Mr. Obama — are hypocrites, liars, and sociopaths. There has never been in my life time a more brazen example of shameless deceit, equivocation, and misrepresentation than the statements by these two men. Considering the U.S. war of aggression against Iraq, which resulted in the death and maiming of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and more than four thousand dead Americans, the strident calls of congress and our govt. leaders for intervention in Syria and for massive aggression against Iran are beyond explanation. There is no more U.S. government, only puppets and running dogs elected with the infusion of billions of dollars funneled into the U.S. election system.

  10. Hey guys, you really didn’t get what Kerry said. He means Yugoslavia, where whole country in the Europe has been smashed to 7 small parts with millions of lost lives. He means Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afganistan with millions of lives. As well as he is well aware about Vietnam in his young age, and several dozens of other agressions by US, ripped altogether about 20-25 millions. But that was in 20&21st centuries. That is why he just mentioned about 19 century. In this point of view he is right, in 2014 need to act as in 2014. Try to imagine couple of millions Americans stuck in Mexico under pressure of mafia? How fast US troops will smother the band? Kerry is right, just need to understand him in a right way. Actually he supports Putin! :)

He means Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afganistan with millions of lives. 12. Now Kerry is saying, "All options are on the table."
    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2014/03/02/k

(CNN) – Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday sharply denounced Russian President Vladimir Putin's "stunning, willful" actions in Crimea, characterizing the move as an "invasion" and saying “all options are on the table” as far as a U.S. response.

    Does that mean nuclear?

Well, if I get nuked in my jammies and get vaporized while I sleep I guess that wouldn't be a bad way to go. Prolly a helluva lot better than what the future has instore for me so…..

    Let's have a war….

      Considering this economy and all…

    1. Expect CNN to wax hysterical for weeks to come. But nothing will come of it. Expect more Zionist defeat by Putin, fast becoming a global superstar…

      1. Does anyone still watch CNN? I stopped watching when they brought out the flags and confetti during "Shock and Awe."

        1. For the first time in quite some time I tuned in last night to watch Fareed Zakaria beat the war drums & spout every conventional wisdom line of drivel imaginable, while giving sane professor Stephen Cohen not nearly enough time to unravel the pack of lies. You apparently need something approaching a lobotomy to get a talking head job in the US.

People will know more about the world the less TV news they watch. Disgusting.

  13. The USG have no creditability, nor any legal right of any kind any longer to criticize or lecture any nation the way that themselves brake the laws of people's freedom, disrespect international laws, disrespect the human rights all over the world, cooperating with all kind of dictatorial, apartheid and tyrant regimes using their mercenaries all over the world and now Ukraine, yet, Kerry is representing the us Democratic Party upperclassmen and women, a man with 220 million dollars assets and hypocrite as rest of the upperclass democrats are. Close the Democratic Party, their is no democracy coming out of this party and it has been like this for last 30 years and well not change unless these hypocrites are kicked out of the party, where the party is managed by people whom believe in people, working for American people first and most, those who believe in a functioning democracy by the people and for the people, those who believe that today date is 2014 and human race cannot go back in time of barbarism, militarism nor Hitlerism of any kind.

  14. I picked up that hypocrisy for the USA to criticise ” invasion on trumped up pretext “after Granada the former Yugoslavia Iraq and Libya is just grotesque.

  20. On April 2, 1993, the cabinet of then Chancellor Helmut Kohl approved the Bundeswehr’s first international combat mission, allowing German soldiers to participate in monitoring the no-fly zone over Bosnia. It was the first war in which the Bundeswehr was involved in combat operations.
