{"id":1113,"date":"2004-07-03T16:38:05","date_gmt":"2004-07-03T23:38:05","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2004-07-03T16:38:05","modified_gmt":"2004-07-03T23:38:05","slug":"karpinski-israeli-interrogators-in-baghdad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2004\/07\/03\/karpinski-israeli-interrogators-in-baghdad\/","title":{"rendered":"Karpinski: Israeli interrogators in Baghdad"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>The American general formerly in charge of Abu Ghraib prison has told the BBC that she has evidence that the Israelis were involved in interrogating Iraqi detainees at another facility.<\/p>\n<p>Brig Gen Janis Karpinski, who was suspended in May over allegations of prisoner abuse, said she met a man claiming to be Israeli during a visit to a Baghdad intelligence centre with a senior coalition general.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw an individual there that I hadn\u2019t had the opportunity to meet before, and I asked him what did he do there, was he an interpreter \u2013 he was clearly from the Middle East,\u201d Karpinski told BBC radio in an interview broadcast today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said, \u2019Well I do some of the interrogation here. I speak Arabic but I\u2019m not an Arab I\u2019m from Israel.\u2019 \u201cI was really kind of surprised by that &#8230; He didn\u2019t elaborate any more than to say he was working with them and there were people from lots of different places that were involved in the operation,\u201d Karpinski added.<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s Foreign Ministry told the BBC that reports of Israeli troops or interrogators in Iraq were \u201ccompletely untrue.\u201d Israeli officials could not immediately be reached.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.scotsman.com\/latest.cfm?id=3158747\" target=\"_blank\">continued&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Well, well, well.
