As I mentioned in the piece, it wouldn&#8217;t be the first time and back when the Clinton administration &#8220;donated&#8221; arms to Turkey for this same reason, it resulted in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hrw.org\/reports\/2005\/turkey0305\/3.htm#_Toc97005223\">a significant increase in violence and serious human rights violations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And this week, Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.todayszaman.com\/news-257859-us-turkey-agree-on-delivery-schedule-for-predators.html\">has accommodated Turkey handsomely<\/a>\u00a0on this latest request.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Turkey is expecting the delivery of Predators<\/strong> in June 2012, the Turkish defense minister said a day after the country&#8217;s prime minister announced that Turkey has agreed with the US on a deal involving the transfer of <strong>US-engineered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)<\/strong> that could prove crucial in combating terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have agreed in principle [on the delivery of Predators]. Negotiations will continue,\u201d Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo?an was quoted as saying by the Cihan news agency on Saturday in New York, where the Turkish leader was visiting on the occasion of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly. Erdo?an also noted that Turkey had offered to either purchase or lease the drones and that the two countries were still settling the details regarding the delivery of the Predators.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is not only indicative of the US role as War <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefreedictionary.com\/monger\">Monger<\/a> in Chief, but also of the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2011\/09\/22\/legality-of-drones-are-questionable-dangerous\/\">dangerous proliferation of drone technology<\/a> for use in state warfare and the losing legal argument that it is a weapon not of any proximate conception of war but of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=murder+definition&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8\">murder<\/a>. Civilians have borne the brunt of the effects of America&#8217;s drone wars; a similar result is predictable in the case of Turkey as well as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2010\/03\/25\/us-usa-drones-idUSTRE62O5RW20100325\">other recipients of drones<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, Turkey asked the US for assistance (read: weapons) in fighting separatist Kurds in southeast Turkey.
