{"id":12259,"date":"2011-10-14T20:19:56","date_gmt":"2011-10-15T04:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=12259"},"modified":"2011-10-14T20:19:56","modified_gmt":"2011-10-15T04:19:56","slug":"the-plot-a-whiskey-swilling-bumbling-link-to-iran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/14\/the-plot-a-whiskey-swilling-bumbling-link-to-iran\/","title":{"rendered":"The &#8216;Plot&#8217;: A Whiskey-Swilling, Bumbling Link to Iran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you thought the DC &#8220;assassination plot&#8221; sounded improbable before, wait until you hear how the whole ridiculous story ties into Iran&#8217;s Quds Force.<\/p>\n<p>Detailing the connection of a &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/notorious-iranian-militant-has-a-connection-to-alleged-assassination-plot-against-saudi-envoy\/2011\/10\/14\/gIQAJ3E6kL_print.html\">notorious Iranian militant<\/a>,&#8221; the Washington Post is only too willing to take the allegations at face value, spelling out with a straight face one of the most preposterous narratives imaginable. <\/p>\n<p>It goes like this: Quds Force Commander Abdul Shahlai, who is a real whiz with assassinations, decided to use Mexican drug cartels (for some inscrutable reason) to either kidnap or knock off the Saudi Ambassador.<\/p>\n<p>But Shahlai didn&#8217;t know any drug cartels. So he called up his cousin, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/10\/15\/world\/middleeast\/us-and-iran-playing-out-old-story-with-accusations.html?_r=1\">whiskey-swilling<\/a> failed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2011\/10\/14\/us-usa-security-iran-arbabsiar-idUSTRE79D5UH20111014\">used car salesman from Texas<\/a>. Why, you ask? A direct quote from Wapo says:<\/p>\n<p><i>U.S. officials say that Shahlai hoped that Arbabsiar, by virtue of his time in Texas, might be able to get in touch with Mexican drug traffickers<\/i><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right ladies and gentlemen: the case for Iran&#8217;s Quds Force being behind this &#8220;plot&#8221; rests on the assumption that a highly organized military force that is supposedly at the forefront of the assassination game called somebody&#8217;s bumbling cousin who lived in Texas, to see if he happened to know any Mexican drug cartels, because Texas is close to Mexico. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you thought the DC &#8220;assassination plot&#8221; sounded improbable before, wait until you hear how the whole ridiculous story ties into Iran&#8217;s Quds Force.
