{"id":12814,"date":"2011-11-18T14:23:22","date_gmt":"2011-11-18T22:23:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=12814"},"modified":"2011-11-18T14:23:22","modified_gmt":"2011-11-18T22:23:22","slug":"on-forcing-palestinians-out-of-east-jerusalem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2011\/11\/18\/on-forcing-palestinians-out-of-east-jerusalem\/","title":{"rendered":"On Forcing Palestinians Out of East Jerusalem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/content\/israel-shuts-down-palestinian-groups-jerusalem\/10606#.TsbX4mBQ0bU\">Electronic Intifada<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe closure of these and other Palestinian institutions are part of a broader policy through which the Israeli authorities seek to stifle Palestinian development in Jerusalem and increase the strength of Israel\u2019s occupation over East Jerusalem,\u201d explained Shtayyeh. \u201cThese closures relate to the overarching policy that includes violations of housing rights,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/tags\/jerusalem-residency\">revocation of residency<\/a>, and ultimately results in the forced displacement of Palestinians from\u00a0Jerusalem.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition to simply <a href=\"http:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2011\/08\/04\/israel-announces-930-homes-in-east-jerusalem-settlement-expansion\/\">expanding illegal settlements<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2011\/11\/01\/citing-unesco-tragedy-israel-announces-settlement-expansions\/\">in East Jerusalem<\/a>, the Israeli government is ousting peaceful civil society institutions, apparently as part of a &#8220;Judiazation project in occupied Jerusalem,&#8221; as Rashad Shtayyeh, the activities coordinator at the Civic Coalition to Defend Palestinians\u2019 Rights in Jerusalem told Electronic Intifada.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.icahd.org\/\">Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions<\/a>\u00a0(ICAHD), submitted <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/viewer?a=v&amp;pid=explorer&amp;chrome=true&amp;srcid=0B1AOvsjv8IjdMDNkYWU0MjItNDQ3ZS00NTBlLThkOTgtN2Y3NjZhODJkY2Fk&amp;hl=en_US&amp;pli=1\">a report<\/a> in September to three of the UN\u2019s Special Rapporteurs claiming that Israel\u2019s actions in East Jerusalem\u00a0violate international law, may constitute a war crime, and asked for an investigation into these practices.
