{"id":1302,"date":"2004-09-12T00:53:28","date_gmt":"2004-09-12T07:53:28","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2004-09-12T00:53:28","modified_gmt":"2004-09-12T07:53:28","slug":"congress-links-911-and-iraq-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2004\/09\/12\/congress-links-911-and-iraq-war\/","title":{"rendered":"Congress Links 9\/11 and Iraq War"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/ac2\/wp-dyn\/A10421-2004Sep9?language=printer\">Congress passed a resolution that was amended to specifically link the War in Iraq to 9\/11.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The sponsor of the resolution, Henry Hyde (R-Ill.) responded to critics, saying &#8220;there is a direct connection between the war in Iraq and the bombing of Sept. 11.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>House Majority Leader Tom Delay (R-Tx.) said U.S. troops in Baghdad are &#8220;fighting the same evil and upholding the same virtues&#8221; as the passengers aboard Flight 93 who battled the hijackers or the police and firefighters who lost their lives at the World Trade Center. &#8220;It is one and the same conflict,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution <a href=\"http:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/evs\/2004\/roll431.xml\">passed overwhelmingly, 406-16, with 15 Democrats and Republican Congressman Ron Paul courageously voting against.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, Congress passed a resolution that was amended to specifically link the War in Iraq to 9\/11.
