{"id":1532,"date":"2004-12-09T15:39:14","date_gmt":"2004-12-09T22:39:14","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2004-12-09T15:39:14","modified_gmt":"2004-12-09T22:39:14","slug":"al-sadr-may-not-be-on-sistanis-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2004\/12\/09\/al-sadr-may-not-be-on-sistanis-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Al-Sadr may not be on Sistani&#8217;s list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/newsitems\/200412\/s1261915.htm\" target=\"_blank\">AFP is reporting <\/a>that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.middle-east-online.com\/english\/?id=12102\" target=\"_blank\">Moqtada al-Sadr<\/a> is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.turkishpress.com\/news.asp?ID=34781\" target=\"_blank\">not on the list<\/a> assembled by  Ayatollah al-Sistani&#8217;s United Iraqi Alliance.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The United Iraqi Alliance, backed by highly revered Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, includes the Dawa party, the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) and Ahmed Chalabi&#8217;s Iraqi National Congress, Dawa&#8217;s Ali Adib said.<\/p>\n<p>But Moqtada al-Sadr, whose militia battled US-led forces in Baghdad and Najaf before calling a truce, &#8220;is not on the list&#8221; after not registering his movement for the elections, said Hussein Shahrastani, a member of the coalition&#8217;s organising committee. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Oddly, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.isn.ethz.ch\/news\/sw\/details.cfm?ID=10325\" target=\"_blank\">several reports<\/a> still claim that the Sadrists <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/newsArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&#038;storyID=7041694\" target=\"_blank\">are on the list.<\/a>  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AFP is reporting that Moqtada al-Sadr is not on the list assembled by Ayatollah al-Sistani&#8217;s United Iraqi Alliance.
