{"id":1534,"date":"2004-12-09T23:24:05","date_gmt":"2004-12-10T06:24:05","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2004-12-09T23:24:05","modified_gmt":"2004-12-10T06:24:05","slug":"abducted-marine-charged-with-desertion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2004\/12\/09\/abducted-marine-charged-with-desertion\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Abducted&#8221; Marine charged with desertion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Remember <a href=\"http:\/\/english.aljazeera.net\/NR\/exeres\/27DFDFC0-2CDE-4EF7-8731-FF0900CE82BF.htm\" target=\"_blank\">this guy?<\/a><\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hassounvideo\" title=\"Hassounvideo\" src=\"http:\/\/ancapistan.typepad.com\/photos\/uncategorized\/hassounvideo.jpg\" border=\"0\"  \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Apparently his getaway didn&#8217;t work out very well:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.news.com.au\/common\/story_page\/0,4057,11647273%255E1702,00.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;Abducted&#8217; Marine&#8217;s desertion charge<\/a><\/p>\n<p> A US Marine who was reported abducted in Iraq and later turned up in his native Jordan was charged today with desertion.<\/p>\n<p>Corporal Wassef Ali Hassoun was charged following a five month investigation into his June disappearance from a US military camp near Fallujah, Iraq, according a statement from the 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade.<\/p>\n<p>Corporal Hassoun, of West Jordan, Utah, is accused of taking unauthorised leave from the unit where he served as an Arabic interpreter.<\/p>\n<p>He is also is charged with the loss of government property and the theft of a military firearm for allegedly leaving the Marine camp while still in possession of his 9mm service pistol, as well as theft and wrongful appropriation of a government vehicle.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>UPDATE:  An alert reader points out that Hassoun is a native of Lebanon, not Jordan. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember this guy?
