Again."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It may be time for Chalabi to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/articles\/A8464-2004Jun2.html\">head for Tehran<\/a> again.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Ahmad Chalabi, the leader of the Iraqi National Congress,<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/english.aljazeera.net\/NR\/exeres\/75D45A5C-162D-4529-BCDB-530F5CAF675F.htm\"> will be arrested<\/a> after the Eid al-Adha holidays, Iraq\u2019s interim defence minister has said.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/ancapistan.typepad.com\/photos\/uncategorized\/chalabishatteredglass300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"204\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Chalabishatteredglass300\" title=\"Chalabishatteredglass300\" src=\"http:\/\/ancapistan.typepad.com\/unfairwitness\/images\/chalabishatteredglass300.jpg\" style=\"margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px; float: left;\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nSpeaking to Aljazeera, minister Hazim Shaalan, said Chalabi would be handed over on arrest to the Interpol.<\/p>\n<p>Shaalan said Chalabi was suspected of killing thousands of opposition figures in Arbil and stoking discord between the two main Kurdish parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will arrest him and hand him over to Interpol. We will arrest him based on facts that he wanted to malign the reputation of the defence ministry,\u201d Shaalan said.<\/p>\n<p> Shaalan also said Chalabi would be handed to Interpol over his conviction in absentia by a Jordanian court in 1992 of embezzling millions from Petra Bank, whose 1989 collapse shook Jordan\u2019s political and financial system.<\/p>\n<p> Chalabi, who founded and ran the bank during a long period when he lived in the country, denies any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur measures will start after Eid,\u201d Shaalan said.<\/p>\n<p>Chalabi invited the wrath of the interim Iraqi authorities after he accused the defence minister in an interview of stealing $500 million from the ministry and posted documents on a Web site accusing him of links to Saddam Hussein\u2019s regime.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Then again, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/english.aljazeera.net\/NR\/exeres\/43EF129D-D47B-47C0-919A-DFC138C20BD7.htm\">Shaalan is about as reliable as Baghdad Bob.<\/a>&nbsp; Maybe this is just negative campaigning, Iraqi Puppet style.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It may be time for Chalabi to head for Tehran again.&nbsp; Ahmad Chalabi, the leader of the Iraqi National Congress, will be arrested after the Eid al-Adha holidays, Iraq\u2019s interim defence minister has said.
