{"id":1809,"date":"2005-02-12T00:55:20","date_gmt":"2005-02-12T07:55:20","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2005-02-12T00:55:20","modified_gmt":"2005-02-12T07:55:20","slug":"baghdad-turnout-50","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2005\/02\/12\/baghdad-turnout-50\/","title":{"rendered":"Baghdad turnout < 50%?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunherald.com\/mld\/sunherald\/news\/world\/10878493.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Knight Ridder&#8217;s Tom Lasseter reports <\/a>some Iraqi election returns:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In final results released Friday for local elections in Baghdad, a city with large Sunni neighborhoods, Shiite cleric-led parties posted large numbers and Sunni tickets gathered relatively few votes.<\/p>\n<p>The local ticket backed by the Shiite Dawa party got 694,800 votes; the ticket backed by the Shiite Supreme Council for Revolution in Iraq got 264,130 votes; and another Shiite group received 156,229 votes.<\/p>\n<p>The slate headed by elder Sunni statesman Adnan Pachachi received just 22,170 votes; and the Iraqi Islamic Party, the main Sunni party in Iraq, got 17,558.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That would mean that in a city of approximately 5 million, 1,154,887 voted.
