It shouldn\u2019t be surprising that the politically-connected entertainment business couple was able to secure a way to visit the communist country, which is subject to a decades-long trade and travel embargo by the United States.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As\u00a0Krayewski details, Republicans are playing politics with the the hip-hop couple&#8217;s trip to Cuba. You see, it&#8217;s a great opportunity to associate President Obama with Castro-loving commie celebrities and to frame his selective endorsement of the trip as elitist. The latter part is accurate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Senator Marco Rubio\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2013\/04\/marco-rubio-jay-z-beyonce-cuba-89792.html\">wants<\/a>\u00a0the Obama administration to explain why Jay-Z and Beyonc\u00e9 were allowed to visit Cuba,&#8221; Krayewski writes. &#8220;The more important question is why aren\u2019t we?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Indeed.\u00a0Cuba has elicited particular ire from Washington ever since the Eisenhower administration, a byproduct of Cold War justifications for US grand strategy, which seeks to maintain hegemony and crush economic, geo-political, or ideological defiance.<\/p>\n<p>Cold War rhetoric is stale, though, so Washington has resorted to declaring Cuba <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/u-says-cuba-still-global-sponsor-terror-072949042.html\">a state sponsor of terrorism<\/a>, a blanket accusation Washington applies to any government it doesn\u2019t like. Contrary to more public statements, a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/j\/ct\/rls\/crt\/2011\/195547.htm#Country%20Reports%20on%20Terrorism\">State Department report<\/a>\u00a0last year found that Cuba\u2019s ties to so-called terrorist groups are tenuous at best.<\/p>\n<p>Cuba has\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/antiwar.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/27\/cuba-to-obama-lets-talk-obama-to-cuba-no-keep-suffering\/\">repeatedly reached out to Washington<\/a>, as President Raul Castro did last summer, insisting that Cuba \u201cis willing to mend fences with bitter Cold War foe the United States and sit down to discuss anything, as long as it is a conversation between equals,\u201d The Associated Press\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/nation-world\/raul-castro-cuba-willing-1485080.html\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny day they want, the table is set. This has already been said through diplomatic channels,\u201d Castro said. \u201cIf they want to talk, we will talk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the Obama administration has refused, intent on continuing to isolate Cuba and <a href=\"http:\/\/antiwar.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/27\/cuba-to-obama-lets-talk-obama-to-cuba-no-keep-suffering\/\">maintain the brutal embargo<\/a>\u00a0and travel ban.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Unless you are close personal friends of King Barack.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jay-Z and\u00a0Beyonc\u00e9 are with the terrorists.
