{"id":20457,"date":"2013-06-22T04:53:02","date_gmt":"2013-06-22T12:53:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=20457"},"modified":"2013-06-22T04:54:19","modified_gmt":"2013-06-22T12:54:19","slug":"snowden-petition-has-already-reached-100000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/22\/snowden-petition-has-already-reached-100000\/","title":{"rendered":"White House Petition to Pardon Snowden Reaches Goal of 100,000 Signatures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/petitions.whitehouse.gov\/petition\/pardon-edward-snowden\/Dp03vGYD\">White House petition<\/a> calling for President Obama to immediately and unconditionally pardon Edward Snowden for informing the American public about the NSA&#8217;s surveillance schemes has reached its goal of 100,000 signatures today, and in less than two weeks. <\/p>\n<p>The petition system normally gives you a whole month to get the signatures you need, and will oblige President Obama to at least make his position on \u0010Snowden&#8217;s prosecution public. <\/p>\n<p>In the past President Obama has said we &#8220;welcomes&#8221; the public discussion on the abusive surveillance of everyday Americans, and such a discussion would&#8217;ve been impossible if Snowden hadn&#8217;t informed us about what the NSA was doing. A pardon seems like the least he could do. <\/p>\n<p>Now just because the petition has reached its goal doesn&#8217;t mean more signatures aren&#8217;t welcome.
