Also, the circumstantial evidence points to the Assad regime carrying out the use of such weapons.<\/p>\n<p>However, since the Western powers have asked for United Nations inspections\u00a0\u2013 and\u00a0Syria\u00a0has accepted and inspectors have been put in the field \u2013 we all should wait to see the report of the inspectors before action is taken.<\/p>\n<p>As we\u2019ve seen before, the political dynamics are running ahead of due process.<\/p>\n<p><b>Gardels:<\/b>\u00a0An echo of Iraq under\u00a0President Bush?<\/p>\n<p><b>Blix:<\/b>\u00a0In a way, yes. Then, too, the Americans and their allies asked for inspections for mass destruction weapons. Then, too, they said, \u201cforget it, we have enough evidence on our own to act. We are the world police. Our publics are demanding immediate action!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I do not go along with the statement by the US that \u201cit is too late\u201d for Syria now to cooperate.
