{"id":23323,"date":"2014-04-17T10:25:44","date_gmt":"2014-04-17T18:25:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=23323"},"modified":"2014-04-17T10:27:11","modified_gmt":"2014-04-17T18:27:11","slug":"mythical-jew-registration-in-east-ukraine-a-media-sensation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2014\/04\/17\/mythical-jew-registration-in-east-ukraine-a-media-sensation\/","title":{"rendered":"Mythical &#8220;Jew Registration&#8221; in East Ukraine a Media Sensation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Determined not to let a good piece of rhetoric go to waste just because it was untrue and discredited nearly 24 hours ago, Western media outlets are running <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/world\/2014\/04\/17\/jews-ordered-to-register-in-east-ukraine\/7816951\/\">frenzied stories<\/a> about Jews in the protester-held Eastern Ukraine cities being forced to register, providing<a href=\"http:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/katiepavlich\/2014\/04\/17\/jews-in-east-ukraine-ordered-to-register-themselves-n1825725\"> a new chance<\/a> to make World War 2 comparisons, and advancing the US narrative that the Russians, and not the &#8220;pro-West&#8221; protesters with swastika stickers on their helmets, are the &#8220;real anti-semites.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Incredibly, the State Department <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2014\/04\/17\/world\/ukraine-religious-threats\/index.html?hpt=hp_t1\">is endorsing the myth<\/a> as absolute fact, because what USA Today claims unnamed Israeli media claims they saw posted outside a synagogue in Donetsk is good enough for them. <\/p>\n<p>The truth, not so much. <\/p>\n<p>The leadership of the self-proclaimed People&#8217;s Republic of Donetsk insist the official looking leaflets a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/pro-russians-in-donetsk-deny-calling-for-jews-to-register\/\">re fakes, and the signature of one of their leaders a forgery<\/a>, designed to discredit the protest movement.
