Wouldn&#8217;t that be great? The oddball grouping of fundamentalist crazies, the warfare mercantilists, fiscal conservatives and libertarians was in jeopardy after the fall of Communism when quite a few on the right who had believed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lewrockwell.com\/orig\/epstein5.html\">William F. Buckley<\/a>, when he said that the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&#038;rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-22,GGLG:en&#038;q=totalitarian+bureaucracy+within+our+shores&#038;spell=1\">totalitarian bureaucracy within our shores<\/a>&#8221; was strictly a temporary measure found themselves disappointed.<\/p>\n<p>The imperial rule of Bill &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?sourceid=navclient&#038;ie=UTF-8&#038;rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-22,GGLG:en&#038;q=waco+rules+engagement\">burn and machine gun and call it suicide<\/a>&#8221; Clinton helped keep the structure of the right intact temporarily, but the damage had already been done. George W. Bush and his neoconservative cronies&#8217; &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=cache:5I5WitineEQJ:www.lowellsun.com\/ci_3072005+strategic+disaster&#038;hl=en\">strategic disaster<\/a>&#8221; of a war in Iraq, as former Reagan-era NSA director William Odom has called it, has finished the job. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/orig\/lind1.html\">The neocons<\/a>, having created the war in Iraq, have now turned on Bush for having it waged, and officially abandoned him:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>&#8220;Their neo-Wilsonian theory is correct, they insist, but the execution was botched by a Bush team that has turned out to be incompetent, crony-filled, corrupt, unimaginative and weak over a wide range of issues. <\/p>\n<p>The flight of the neocons &#8211; just read a recent Weekly Standard to see what I am talking about &#8211; is one of only many indications that the long-predicted \u201cconservative crackup\u201d is at hand.&#8221;<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fineman is adding the neocons to the religious crazies who are mad about Harriet Myers&#8217; nomination to the Supreme Court, businessmen (presumably from companies other than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?sourceid=navclient&#038;ie=UTF-8&#038;rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-22,GGLG:en&#038;q=Halliburton+katrina\">Halliburton<\/a>) who are embarrassed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lewrockwell.com\/rockwell\/central-katrina.html\">disastrous handling<\/a> of Hurricane Katrina, fiscal conservatives worried about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alertnet.org\/thenews\/newsdesk\/N30297215.htm\">funny money<\/a>, and those he calls &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/antiwar.com\">isolationists<\/a>&#8221; (the old smear term against those who advocate political &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.indiana.edu\/uslawdocs\/declaration.html\">independence<\/a>&#8220;).<\/p>\n<p>Traditional establishment chessboard types like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iht.com\/articles\/2005\/10\/13\/opinion\/edzbig.php\">Zbigniew Brzezinski <\/a> haven&#8217;t liked him since he went to Iraq instead of taking over all of Central Asia. <\/p>\n<p>So who are the <a href=\"\">40%<\/a> of people left supporting George W. Bush and the stupidest foreign policy since McKinley waged aggressive war in the Philippines to <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.lewrockwell.com\/lewrw\/archives\/009051.html\">Christianize the Catholics<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>This seems like a pretty good sample: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/article10605.htm\">American government school graduates who think Iran is a continent in the South Pacific<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Boy, the liberventionists sure picked a great time to become conservatives.
