{"id":2503,"date":"2005-11-09T04:52:55","date_gmt":"2005-11-09T11:52:55","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2005-11-09T04:52:55","modified_gmt":"2005-11-09T11:52:55","slug":"what-a-bunch-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2005\/11\/09\/what-a-bunch-of\/","title":{"rendered":"What a Bunch of&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>They&#8217;re not much exercised about prewar lies, but exposing US gulags \u2013 well, <a href=http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2005\/11\/08\/AR2005110800764_pf.html>they&#8217;re not having any of that<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>Congress&#8217;s top Republican leaders yesterday demanded an immediate joint House and Senate investigation into the disclosure of classified information to The Washington Post that detailed a web of secret prisons being used to house and interrogate terrorism suspects.<\/p>\n<p>The Post&#8217;s article, published on Nov. 2, has led to new questions about the treatment of detainees and the CIA&#8217;s use of &#8220;black sites&#8221; in Eastern Europe and elsewhere. The issue dogged President Bush in his recent trip to Latin America and has created consternation in Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If accurate, such an egregious disclosure could have long-term and far-reaching damaging and dangerous consequences, and will imperil our efforts to protect the American people and our homeland from terrorist attacks,&#8221; Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) wrote in a letter to the chairmen of the House and Senate intelligence committees.<\/ul>\n<p>That&#8217;s right: it&#8217;s the <i>disclosure<\/i> that so outrages these paragons of morality.<\/p>\n<p>While we&#8217;re on the topic of your tax dollars and the toilets they end up feeding\u2026<\/p>\n<p>When&#8217;s the last time you took a vacation? Did you stay in a <a href=http:\/\/www.ritzcarlton.com\/hotels\/georgetown\/default.html>place<\/a> like <a href=http:\/\/www.ritzcarlton.com\/hotels\/georgetown\/photo_tour\/accommodations\/executive_suite.asp>this<\/a>?
