{"id":2572,"date":"2005-12-14T09:41:18","date_gmt":"2005-12-14T16:41:18","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2005-12-14T09:41:18","modified_gmt":"2005-12-14T16:41:18","slug":"rice-world-not-helping-with-saddam-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2005\/12\/14\/rice-world-not-helping-with-saddam-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"Rice: World Not Helping With Saddam Trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/2005\/12\/13\/D8EFO9I00.html\">From the AP<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>WASHINGTON &#8211; The world has shirked its duty to help prosecute Saddam Hussein, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Tuesday. &#8220;The international community&#8217;s effective boycott of Saddam&#8217;s trial is only harming the Iraqi people, who are now working to secure the hope of justice and freedom that Saddam long denied them,&#8221; Rice said. <\/p>\n<p>The top U.S. diplomat also predicted that the Iraqi elections this week would yield the most democratic government &#8220;in the entire Middle East.&#8221; She did not mention the long-standing democracy in Israel.<\/em> [Heh. -editor]<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I am sad to say that the international community has barely done anything to help Iraq prosecute Saddam Hussein,&#8221; she said. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All who express their devotion to human rights and the rule of law have a special obligation to help the Iraqis bring to justice one of the world&#8217;s most murderous tyrants.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is roundly agreed that the &#8220;trial&#8221; of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/archives\/articles\/2003\/4\/10\/205859.shtml\">former US employee<\/a> Saddam Hussein is a complete <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?sourceid=navclient&#038;ie=UTF-8&#038;rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-22,GGLG:en&#038;q=hussein+trial+farce\">farce<\/a>, complete with Hussein taking control of the court to <a href=\"http:\/\/dailytelegraph.news.com.au\/story\/0,20281,17400940-5001022,00.html\">rant<\/a> against the legitimacy of the courts juristiction, but what is it that &#8220;the world&#8221; is supposed to do to fix it?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>She did not name names, nor say just what other nations could do to help. Although the former president&#8217;s trial is being carried out in an Iraqi court, with an Iraqi judge, the United States underwrote and helped organize the criminal investigation and prosecution effort.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>How did this ridiculous person ever become the Secretary of State? <\/p>\n<p>Oh, right.
