{"id":26674,"date":"2016-03-03T06:39:26","date_gmt":"2016-03-03T14:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=26674"},"modified":"2016-03-03T06:39:26","modified_gmt":"2016-03-03T14:39:26","slug":"brave-afghan-forces-kill-inside-hospital-for-freedom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/03\/brave-afghan-forces-kill-inside-hospital-for-freedom\/","title":{"rendered":"Brave Afghan Forces Kill Inside Hospital, for Freedom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently a new feature of the modern war of terror is the shameless, blameless, overt targeting of hospitals, doctors and bedridden patients, all without the means of even modest self-defense.<\/p>\n<p>Following the <a href=\"http:\/\/latest.com\/2016\/01\/u-s-military-readies-punishments-for-afghan-hospital-airstrike\/\">American destruction<\/a> of a Doctors Without Borders facility in Afghanistan, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-yemen-security-idUSKCN0UP1DT20160111\">Saudi targeting<\/a>, using American weapons, of hospitals in Yemen, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/storyline\/middle-east-unrest\/another-gaza-hospital-hit-israeli-strike-four-dead-40-hurt-n161086\">Israeli destruction<\/a>, using American weapons, of Palestinian hospitals in Gaza, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/latest.com\/2016\/02\/air-strikes-destroy-three-hospitals-in-syria-kill-dozens-of-civilians\/\">Russia\/Syrian destruction<\/a> of a Doctors Without Borders facility in Syria, we now have another case, perpetrated against the rules of war, international treaties and simple humanity.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_26676\" style=\"width: 565px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/child-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-26676\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26676\" src=\"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/child-1.jpg\" alt=\"The child shown above was injured in Gaza, 2014. Serves her right for choosing to live among terrorists, amiright?<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Afghan security forces, possibly accompanied by NATO advisers, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/02\/19\/world\/asia\/hospital-raid-afghan-forces-nato-wardak-province.html?_r=0\">raided a hospital<\/a> south of Kabul and abducted and then killed at least three men suspected of being insurgents.<\/p>\n<p>The raid began in Wardak Province, 100 miles from Kabul, at a hospital run by the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan, an international aid agency. Initial reports differed about whether the units involved in the four-hour raid, whose members descended from helicopters, belonged to the Afghan Army or the police. The number of casualties was also not clear, with different accounts suggesting that between three and five people had been killed.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/swedishcommittee.org\/\">Swedish Committee for Afghanistan<\/a> denounced the raid, which it said the Afghan Army had conducted, as a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions. <\/p>\n<p>Yeah, whatever, how quaint.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMedical facilities and medical staff are to provide treatment to anyone in need, and patients are to be granted safety according to humanitarian law,\u201d J\u00f6rgen Holmstr\u00f6m, the Swedish group\u2019s country director, said in a statement. \u201cWe will further investigate this violation and let those responsible be held accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Held accountable.&#8221; How quaint.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for Wardak Province\u2019s police chief said elite police units, who were possibly accompanied by Americans, had conducted the operation.<br \/> \u201cThose killed in the hospital were all terrorists,\u201d he said, adding that he was \u201chappy that they were killed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the American-led NATO coalition denied involvement. \u201cAt this point, we have no reports of any coalition operations near a hospital,\u201d said Col. Michael T.
