{"id":3062,"date":"2006-10-20T00:20:58","date_gmt":"2006-10-20T07:20:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2006\/10\/20\/afghanistan-wasn%e2%80%99t-enough\/"},"modified":"2006-10-20T12:24:43","modified_gmt":"2006-10-20T19:24:43","slug":"afghanistan-wasn%e2%80%99t-enough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2006\/10\/20\/afghanistan-wasn%e2%80%99t-enough\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Afghanistan Wasn&#8217;t Enough&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Along the lines of Justin Raimondo&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/antiwar.com\/justin\/?articleid=9892\">article<\/a> about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2006\/10\/19\/reading-jonah-goldberg-was-a-worthy-mistake\/\">Jonah Goldberg<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/216.239.51.104\/search?q=cache:9uEjK6taDrQJ:www.nationalreview.com\/goldberg\/goldberg042302.asp+%22Every+ten+years+or+so,+the+United+States+needs+to+pick+up+some+small+crappy+little+country+and+throw+it+against+the+wall,+just+to+show+the+world+we+mean+business&amp;hl=en&amp;gl=us&amp;ct=clnk&amp;cd=1\">the Ledeen Doctrine<\/a>, one of the most sickening yet, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;lr=&amp;q=%22Because+Afghanistan+wasn%27t+enough%22&amp;btnG=Search\">as far as I can tell<\/a>, unremarked upon bits of hearsay in Bob Woodward&#8217;s new book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/State-Denial-Bush-Part-III\/dp\/0743272234\"><em>State of Denial<\/em><\/a>, is about the bloodlust of Henry Kissinger, apparently as relayed to Woodward by former Bush speechwriter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/life\/2001-04-11-bush-speechwriter.htm\">Mike Gerson<\/a>. From page 408:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Why did you support the Iraq war?&#8221; Gerson asked him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because Afghanistan wasn&#8217;t enough,&#8221; Kissinger answered. In the conflict with radical Islam, he said, they want to humiliate us. &#8220;And we need to humiliate them.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The lesson is fairly obvious, no?<\/p>\n<p>The problem again is collectivism. &#8220;We,&#8221; &#8220;they.&#8221; It is irrelevant that the government and people of Iraq were innocent of the crimes of September 11th, and in fact had nothing to do with &#8220;radical Islam.&#8221; They are &#8220;they&#8221; to Henry Kissinger, and so now they&#8217;re dead &#8211; in order to &#8220;send a larger message.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Too bad the Bush regime still hasn&#8217;t captured or killed Osama bin Laden or Ayman al-Zawahiri.
