{"id":3109,"date":"2006-11-16T05:33:34","date_gmt":"2006-11-16T12:33:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2006\/11\/16\/help-put-em-away\/"},"modified":"2006-11-16T08:27:00","modified_gmt":"2006-11-16T15:27:00","slug":"help-put-em-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2006\/11\/16\/help-put-em-away\/","title":{"rendered":"Help put &#8217;em away &#8211; &#8211; &#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you don&#8217;t know yet, the German Court system, claiming world-wide jurisdiction over torture, is re-hearing a complaint against former Defense Secretary <strong>Donald Rumsfeld<\/strong>, Attorney General <strong>Alberto Gonzales<\/strong>, former CIA Director <strong>George Tenet<\/strong> and others, alleging that many of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thepriceofliberty.org\/white.htm\">&#8220;interrogation&#8221; techniques<\/a> they authorized at <strong>Guantanimo<\/strong> and <strong>Abu Ghraib<\/strong> amount to torture and violate the Geneva Conventions.<\/p>\n<p>Previously the German prosecutor declined to investigate on grounds that the U.S. Government would look into these allegations itself.<\/p>\n<p>Since that ruling however, just the opposite has happened: Passage of the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Military_Commissions_Act_of_2006\">Military Commissions Act of 2006<\/a><\/strong> allows a continuation of such secret &#8220;interrogations,&#8221; &#8212; and amending the &#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/War_Crimes_Act_of_1996\">War Crimes Act<\/a><\/strong>&#8221; retroactively immunized those authorizing them.<\/p>\n<p>Will the German system have cojones enough to take on the Bush Administration?<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s where you can &#8220;help put &#8217;em away!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It will help the German system pluck up it&#8217;s courage if enough people show support for the investigation.
