{"id":3375,"date":"2007-03-22T09:54:11","date_gmt":"2007-03-22T16:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2007\/03\/22\/damned-proud-of-dead-arab-women-and-children\/"},"modified":"2007-03-22T09:54:11","modified_gmt":"2007-03-22T16:54:11","slug":"damned-proud-of-dead-arab-women-and-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2007\/03\/22\/damned-proud-of-dead-arab-women-and-children\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Damned Proud&#8221; of Dead Arab Women and Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former US United Nations Ambassador John Bolton told the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/middle_east\/6479377.stm\">BBC today<\/a><\/strong> that he was \u00e2\u20ac\u0153damned proud\u00e2\u20ac\u009d of how the U.S. intentionally blocked efforts to achieve a ceasefire last summer when Israel was bombing Beirut and many other locales in Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC summarized Bolton\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s comments: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153A former top American diplomat says the US deliberately resisted calls for a immediate ceasefire during the conflict in Lebanon in the summer of 2006. Former ambassador to the UN John Bolton told the BBC that before any ceasefire Washington wanted Israel to eliminate Hezbollah\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s military capability.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Bolton said it was \u00e2\u20ac\u0153perfectly legitimate and good politics\u00e2\u20ac\u009d for Israel to seek to crush Hezbollah.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The fact that the Israelis used U.S. bombs to\u00c2\u00a0wreak death and destruction throughout Lebanon is apparently irrelevant. \u00c2\u00a0 More than a thousand Lebanese civilians were killed by the Israeli government, with the Bush team cheering on each detonation.<\/p>\n<p>AIPAC, the most powerful lobby in DC, bragged of its role in blocking any ceasefire.\u00c2\u00a0 (A good critique of AIPAC\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s role in the Lebanon carnage is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stopaipac.org\/aipaclebanon.htm\">here<\/a><\/strong>).\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bolton captures the arrogance and total hypocrisy of the Bush war on terrorism.\u00c2\u00a0 In a meeting last August, Bolton\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153implied that because Lebanon harbored Hezbollah, Lebanese lives were forfeit,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/story\/2006\/8\/7\/113732\/7369\">according to a UN official<\/a><\/strong> who heard Bolton commenting in meetings at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Neither AIPAC nor the Bush team suffered any backlash from\u00c2\u00a0 Christian fundamentalists as a result of Israeli bombing of Christian villages.\u00c2\u00a0 Lebanese Christians despise and oppose Hezbollah &#8211; but they were Lebanese so they apparently deserved to die.<\/p>\n<p>As I wrote in blogs last summer, both Hezbollah and the Israeli government were guilty of mass murder.\u00c2\u00a0 But the Bush administration\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s absolute support (and re-arming) of a government that was intentionally slaughtering civilians is a crime that must not be forgot. \u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Comments &amp; contrary views welcome at my blog<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/jimbovard.com\/blog\/2007\/03\/22\/damned-proud-of-dead-lebanese-women-children\/\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former US United Nations Ambassador John Bolton told the BBC today that he was \u00e2\u20ac\u0153damned proud\u00e2\u20ac\u009d of how the U.S. intentionally blocked efforts to achieve a ceasefire last summer when Israel was bombing Beirut and many other locales in Lebanon.
