{"id":3477,"date":"2007-04-26T13:41:04","date_gmt":"2007-04-26T20:41:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2007\/04\/26\/sniveling-media-exposed\/"},"modified":"2007-04-26T13:41:04","modified_gmt":"2007-04-26T20:41:04","slug":"sniveling-media-exposed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2007\/04\/26\/sniveling-media-exposed\/","title":{"rendered":"Sniveling Media Exposed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Bill Moyers Journal<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 episode on &#8220;Buying the War&#8221; on PBS is a great expose on how media groveling to Bush administration\u00c2\u00a0falsehoods and absurdities\u00c2\u00a0helped lead to the Iraq war.<\/p>\n<p>The program focuss on the villains and bootlickers in the press.\u00c2\u00a0 It also contained interviews with some of the courageous reporters &#8211; such as Warren Stroebel and Jonathan Landay of Knight Ridder &#8211; who saw through &amp; reported the Bush administration\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s frauds months before the war began.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Charles Hanley, an Associated Press reporter who went with the UN inspection teams in Iraq in late 2002 and early 2003, talked about how editors would delete his comments about how the Bush administration\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s claims on WMDs were being proven wrong.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Norman Solomon, the author of <em>War Made\u00c2\u00a0Easy<\/em>,\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0made excellent comments on the institutional cowardice and groveling of the mainstream media.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Unfortunately, the program did not include any reference to Antiwar.com&#8217;s truth-telling long before &#8220;Shock and Awe&#8221; hit Baghdad.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Rather told Moyers that in every newsroom in the country, there is fear of getting &#8220;the reputation of being a troublemaker\u00e2\u20ac\u009d &#8211; thus making journalists and editors shy away from challenging the honesty of the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Rather at least had the gumption to be interviewed, despite some disgraceful things he said on the air after 9\/11 about kowtowing to Bush.\u00c2\u00a0 Almost all\u00c2\u00a0 the chickenhawk columnists and pundits chickened out &#8211; didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t even have the gumption to sit down in front of\u00c2\u00a0 Moyers and defend themselves.<\/p>\n<p>If you get a chance to see the program (it\u00c2\u00a0airs at a different time in\u00c2\u00a0various PBS markets), it is definitely worth catching.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The transcript is already <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/moyers\/journal\/btw\/transcript1.html\">online here<\/a><\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Comments on this topic are welcome at my blog <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/jimbovard.com\/blog\/2007\/04\/25\/how-the-sniveling-media-paved-the-road-to-war\/\">here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bill Moyers Journal\u00c2\u00a0 episode on &#8220;Buying the War&#8221; on PBS is a great expose on how media groveling to Bush administration\u00c2\u00a0falsehoods and absurdities\u00c2\u00a0helped lead to the Iraq war.
