{"id":36434,"date":"2020-11-26T09:38:17","date_gmt":"2020-11-26T17:38:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=36434"},"modified":"2020-11-26T09:38:17","modified_gmt":"2020-11-26T17:38:17","slug":"back-to-the-brink-of-war-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2020\/11\/26\/back-to-the-brink-of-war-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Back to the Brink of War Again?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theamericanconservative.com\/\">The American Conservative<\/a>:<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theamericanconservative.com\/articles\/ending-our-shell-game-foreign-policy-in-the-middle-east\/\">I said<\/a> that there was still a danger that the U.S. or Israel might launch an attack on Iranian targets before the new administration takes over. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/israeli-military-prepares-trump-iran-0d0a5725-c410-4f5c-a0ea-9c6f9add4966.html\">Axios reports<\/a> yesterday that Israel is preparing for a possible U.S. attack on Iran:<\/p>\n<p><i>The Israel Defense Forces have in recent weeks been instructed to prepare for the possibility that the U.S. will conduct a military strike against Iran before President Trump leaves office, senior Israeli officials tell me.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>This report comes just a few days after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theamericanconservative.com\/state-of-the-union\/attacking-iran-would-be-colossally-stupid\/\">news<\/a> that the president had recently asked for military options for just such an attack. Earlier this week, the administration announced that it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/in-threat-to-iran-us-sends-heavy-bombers-to-middle-east-via-israel\/\">sending<\/a> a number of B-52s to the region on short notice.
