{"id":3787,"date":"2007-08-12T10:45:29","date_gmt":"2007-08-12T17:45:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2007\/08\/12\/efps-are-made-in-iraq-by-iraqis\/"},"modified":"2007-08-12T16:07:00","modified_gmt":"2007-08-12T23:07:00","slug":"efps-are-made-in-iraq-by-iraqis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2007\/08\/12\/efps-are-made-in-iraq-by-iraqis\/","title":{"rendered":"EFPs are Made in Iraq by Iraqis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Okay folks, this one\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s simple: Among <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prospect.org\/cs\/articles?article=the_shia_fellas\">Shia in Iraq<\/a>, the U.S. backs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/a2347bd0-46a4-11dc-a3be-0000779fd2ac.html\">the same folks as the Iranians do<\/a>: The Da\u00e2\u20ac\u2122wa Party and the Supreme Islamic Council.<\/p>\n<p>The Shi\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ites who are fighting our guys are <a href=\"http:\/\/raedinthemiddle.blogspot.com\/2006\/11\/national-salvation-front-or-government.html\">nationalists<\/a>, and so are somewhat down with the Sunni Arab nationalists and <em>opposed<\/em> to Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Enter <a href=\"http:\/\/graphics.nytimes.com\/images\/2002\/03\/07\/international\/michaelgordon.jpg\">Michael R. Gordon<\/a> of the <em>New York Times, <\/em>who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/02\/10\/world\/middleeast\/10weapons.html?ex=1328763600&#038;en=a969c2a825f5e668&#038;ei=5090&#038;partner=rssuserland&#038;emc=rss\">keeps<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/08\/08\/world\/middleeast\/08military.html?ex=1344225600&#038;en=e3974bad086516f0&#038;ei=5090&#038;partner=rssuserland&#038;emc=rss\">pushing<\/a> (without providing evidence) the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prospect.org\/cs\/articles?article=the_iran_attack_that_wasnt\">Vice-President\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/porter\/?articleid=11391\">propaganda<\/a> that the new, improved <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&#038;rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS176US231&#038;q=EFP+iran&#038;btnG=Search\">EFP bombs<\/a> <em>must<\/em> be coming from Iran.<\/p>\n<p>For those who listen to Antiwar Radio, you know I refute this lie every single day, citing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2007\/04\/10\/washington-post-liars-caught\/\">CSM and Reuters\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 reports<\/a> that an EFP factory was found in Iraq in April by troops during \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Operation Black Eagle,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d according to Army Spokesman Lt. Col Scott Bleichwehl.<\/p>\n<p>Journalist Gareth Porter, whom I often interview, has written <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&#038;rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS176US231&#038;q=gareth+porter+iran+efps&#038;btnG=Search\">extensively<\/a> on this matter.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Cockburn took an axe to the lies in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/printedition\/asection\/la-oe-cockburn16feb16,1,2790804.story?coll=la-news-a_section&#038;ctrack=3&#038;cset=true\">this <em>Los Angeles<\/em> <em>Times <\/em>article<\/a> back in February. <a href=\"http:\/\/worldblog.msnbc.msn.com\/archive\/2007\/02\/23\/67306.aspx\">NBC News<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wired.com\/defense\/2007\/02\/where_are_iraqs.html\"><em>Wired<\/em><\/a> have also run articles casting doubt on the alleged Iranian origin of the bombs. Allisa J. Rubin in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/04\/07\/world\/middleeast\/07iraq.html?ex=1333598400&#038;en=b4aaa749a523af74&#038;ei=5090&#038;partner=rssuserland&#038;emc=rss\"><em>New York Times<\/em><\/a> discusses the discovery of an EFP factory in Iraq (Shhhh! Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t tell Michael R. Gordon\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s editor!) and even the <a href=\"http:\/\/users2.wsj.com\/lmda\/do\/checkLogin?mg=evo-wsj&#038;url=http%3A%2F%2Fonline.wsj.com%2Farticle%2FSB117254247709420157.html%3Fmod%3Drss_whats_news_us\"><em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a> has spoken truth to the propaganda.<\/p>\n<p>And so why is this such a big deal?<\/p>\n<p>Well, because <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewashingtonnote.com\/archives\/002145.php\">Dick Cheney is trying to start a war with Iran<\/a> and since <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.suntimes.com\/sweet\/2007\/08\/sweet_blog_special_bush_press_1.html\">the president has admitted that Iran <em>does not<\/em> have a nuclear weapons program<\/a>, the War Party has had to switch gears. Now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcclatchydc.com\/227\/story\/18834.html\">the excuse for bombing Iran<\/a> is that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_lists\/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&#038;session=1&#038;vote=00242\">they are bombing our guys in Iraq<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The proof?
