Bush: Fighting to the Finish.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 Fox reporter Bret Baier <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/01\/25\/bush-lincoln-fox\/\"><strong>commented of his meetings<\/strong> <\/a>with Bush: \u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We talked a lot about President Lincoln. <strong>And there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s going to be a lot of people out there who watch this hour and say, is he trying to equate himself with Lincoln? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I tell you what \u00e2\u20ac\u201d he thinks about Lincoln and the tough times that he had during the Civil War. 600,000 dead. <strong>The country essentially hated him when he was leaving office.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Perhaps the cartoon history books Bush was given neglected to mention the fact that Lincoln was very popular in the North at the time he \u00e2\u20ac\u0153left office\u00e2\u20ac\u009d via John Wilkes Booth.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Lincoln was hated in the South, not surprisingly &#8211; given the Rules of Engagement that northern armies followed in the final years of the war.<\/p>\n<p>Bush has followed in Lincoln\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s footsteps when he gushes over freedom while trampling the Constitution.\u00c2\u00a0 That Lincoln suspended habeas corpus, jailed 20,000 people without charges, forcibly shut down hundreds of newspapers that criticized him, and sent in federal troops to shut down state legislatures was irrelevant because he proclaimed \u00e2\u20ac\u0153that this nation shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d as I noted in\u00c2\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1403971080\/ref=cm_arms_pdp_dp\">Attention Deficit Democracy<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bush struts when he promises to\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u009dbring to justice\u00e2\u20ac\u009d people on his target list.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully Americans will\u00c2\u00a0<strong>see George Bush brought to\u00c2\u00a0 justice<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0for his crimes.\u00c2\u00a0 That would be a rebirth of the Rule of Law in this land.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The intellectual bootlickers surrounding Bush have apparently persuaded him that he is the reincarnation of Abraham Lincoln.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Fox News recently had unprecedented access to Bush to produce a documentary to air on Sunday night: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153\u00e2\u20ac\u0153George W.
