Also via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8nffAittKEk&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;ab_channel=SamHusseini\" rel>YouTube<\/a> without enhanced audio.]<\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam Husseini<\/strong>: Last time, you claimed: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/husseini.substack.com\/p\/state-dept-denies-latest-allegations\" rel>We follow the law in every instance<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>But Archbishop Desmond Tutu\u2019s last article was an admonishment to this administration &#8211; headlined \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2020\/dec\/31\/joe-biden-us-pretence-israel-nuclear-weapons\" rel>Joe Biden should end the US pretence over Israel\u2019s \u2018secret\u2019 nuclear weapons<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The subhead was: \u201cThe cover-up has to stop \u2013 and with it, the huge sums in aid for a country with oppressive policies towards Palestinians\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Archbishop noted specifically: \u201cAmendments by former Senators Glen &#8211; Stuart Symington and John Glenn \u2026 ban US economic and military assistance to nuclear proliferators and countries that acquire nuclear weapons.\u201d He noted that Israel not only got nuclear weapons, but also: \u201cThere is overwhelming evidence that it offered to sell the apartheid regime in South Africa nuclear weapons in the 1970s and even conducted a joint nuclear test. The US government tried to cover up these facts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Archbishop added: \u201cThe US government should uphold its laws and cut off funding to Israel because of its acquisition and proliferation of nuclear weapons.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Are you not in violation of this US law (which is part of the Arms Export Control Act) as the late Archbishop charges? <\/p>\n<p><strong>Ned Price:<\/strong> This administration follows the law. We have an ironclad relationship with Israel, as I mentioned before. We are committed to Israel\u2019s security. That, of course, remains the same. We\u2019ve spoken a lot about Israel and that bilateral relationship today, but that security partnership is strong and we\u2019re committed to preserving that and to strengthening that.<\/p>\n<p>[Motioning to another reporter] Yes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam Husseini:<\/strong> But I just cited a specific law. Will you reply to the law? Are you not in violation of the Glenn\/Symington Amendments to the Arms Export Act?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ned Price:<\/strong> We follow the law in all instances.<\/p>\n<p>[Motioning to another reporter] Yes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam Husseini:<\/strong> You have to specify. You have to give me more information than that. It says that there should be a cutoff of U.S. aid to a country that proliferates nuclear weapons &#8211; or the president can issue a waiver. There has been no information of any sort of waiver. Have there been any waivers?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ned Price:<\/strong> I\u2019m not familiar with the details of this law, but I can tell you that we follow the law in &#8211; <\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam Husseini:<\/strong> I\u2019m not talking about details; I\u2019m talking about the core.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ned Price:<\/strong> &#8211; in every \u2013 in every instance.<\/p>\n<p>[Motioning to another reporter] Go ahead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam Husseini:<\/strong> I\u2019m talking about the core of the law.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ned Price:<\/strong> [Motioning to another reporter] Go ahead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam Husseini:<\/strong> Are \u2013 I\u2019m citing a law and you\u2019re not responding to any specifics on this specific law.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ned Price:<\/strong> Again, I\u2019m not familiar with the details of this law.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam Husseini:<\/strong> Will you get back on this with us \u2013 to us?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ned Price:<\/strong> I\u2019m not familiar with the details of this law, but of course we &#8211; <\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam Husseini:<\/strong> Will you get back on the specifics here?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ned Price:<\/strong> If we have anything to share on this law, we\u2019ll let you know. [Motioning to another reporter] Yes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Price\u2019s core response &#8211; \u201cThis administration follows the law. We have an ironclad relationship with Israel, as I mentioned before\u201d &#8211; was reminiscent of that of Mike Pence when I asked him to acknowledge Israel\u2019s nuclear weapons. <\/p>\n<p>Pence said: \u201cI am aware that Israel is our most cherished ally. Of course, it\u2019s an Israeli sovereign decision. That\u2019s what you said. So if Israel tomorrow says I\u2019m going to annex half of the West Bank, I\u2019m going to annex somewhere, that is also sovereign decision; you agree? That is a sovereign Israeli decision? That will not prompt you to take any action beside or beyond expressing how deeply troubled you are?<\/p>\n<p><strong>NED PRICE:<\/strong> Said, that\u2019s a hypothetical and it\u2019s a hypothetical that you know as well as I is not going to happen tomorrow. It\u2019s also a hypothetical that is inconsistent \u2013 would be inconsistent with everything that we have said about the strong urging we have put forward to both parties \u2013 to Israelis and Palestinians \u2013 that they should refrain from steps that serve only to exacerbate tensions and to put even further distance between where we are now and an ultimate two-state solution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SAM HUSSEINI: <\/strong>But why call it a sovereign decision if they don\u2019t have sovereignty?<\/p>\n<p><strong>SAID ARIKAT: <\/strong>Can I finish, please? Okay. So, I mean you\u2019re also saying that we don\u2019t want to compromise the effort towards a two-state solution, right, although knowing full well that every time there is a new settlement that really compromises that outcome? Not only that, if you are unable to persuade the Israelis to backtrack on a settlement that they have termed as illegal, how are you going to force the Israelis to remove 700 settlers and maybe 300 on some settlement? How will you do that? If you \u2013 there is nothing wrong with the strength of your tone.
